Cops Caught on Video Holding a Black Army Lieutenant at Gunpoint, Then Pepper-Spraying Him

Caron Nazario was driving his newly-purchased Chevy Tahoe home when two police officers pulled him over in Windsor, Virginia, whipped out their guns, and started barking orders.

With their weapons raised, the officers demanded that Nazario, a Black and Latino man, get out of the SUV. Nazario looked in the mirror and saw he was being held at gunpoint, then placed his cellphone on his dashboard to film the December 5 encounter. He repeatedly asked to know what was going on. At one point, he even admitted to being afraid to leave the vehicle.

“Yeah, you should be,” one of the officers responded.

if a lawsuit is big enough, or there are multiple lawsuits against this PD, taxpayers could pressure the local government to change the PD leadership and practices as a form of fiscal conservatism. It's not likely given it's a small town in Virginia, but on the other hand, it's close enough to the coastal cities and military facilities that liberals may live in the town.

both hands out the window and get out of the car? If you take your hand down to open the door they shoot you and claim you went for a weapon. I have a concealed carry permit and that is the reason I do not not carry a gun and will not renew it. The cops know you may be armed as soon as they run your number. If you completely comply with their orders and they ask you for your license and registration and you put your hands down to get them and you got a cop like those two you are dead.

It's taken this long for the video to be released. If they are to be fired, it won't happen unless there's a trial and that's still coming down the pike.

That brought me to tears with frustration that this just keeps getting worse, not better. What is going on? Why couldn't they start a conversation instead of pulling guns? This man seems to have done nothing more than driving while black (and now driving while black in a uniform). The officers involved should be fired on the spot. Weren't they nice - they saved his career by not filing false or trumped charges - ?

It's always been like this, but now many cops have to wear body cams so we see more of it. We also see more because almost everyone carries a videocamera with them at all times, on their phones. In terms of raising awareness, this IS the situation getting better as now people are starting to see how pervasive policing harassment and racism have always been, so now we can address the problem.

21. Easy, no one is suing insurance companies for fid violations on payouts to municipalities

... who get sued with big numbers.

People think cities pay out on these claims, its mostly insurance companies and if they're paying and not making sure cops have background checks they're violating fiduciary responsibilities to a T.

If the insurance companies are the ones getting hit the cities and the PDs don't make changes, just give it to the insurance company and they handle it.

Once the ICs make the cities pay if the city PDs are violating insurance stipulations shit will change quick.

Also, take the investigations of complaints out of the hand of the police and put them into independent organizations.

18. Cops get their jollies turning what should be a routine stop into a "felony stop"

They get to practice making a big deal and barking orders with their guns drawn.

I’ve literally seen videos where they remark using the stop as “practice”

This is all over no license plate so they decided to escalate as if it were a stolen vehicle. Never mind the victim had his temporary tag in the back window.

The cops had several opportunities to de-escalate the situation but their fragile egos wouldn’t let them.
