nobody is commenting on the obvious racist trope that windsor, pd officer used

He said, you are fixing to ride the lightning son.
In the south , white people addressing black people by the moniker boy or son is an obvious racist trope. Not to mention he threatens to kill him in the same breath.
This is a few minutes from my house , I am so infuriated especially given that I already see rwingers making excuses. I almost got into a fist fight earlier today because of one such remark by some clueless asshole thinking I was a kindred spirit ( I am white) .

The fact you felt that a fight was about to break out, shows how disgusting some people in this country are.

32. Older white men call younger white men "son" all the time..

It's really not a synonym for the racist "boy"

I am NOT defending this POS, but I feel it's important to stay factual.

7. Boy yes, son not so much

I grew up in Texas. I'm white and lots of older men called me "son" (I would usually correct them and tell them they were not my dad), but I heard them often call black men "boy" (I would often correct them and tell them, whoever they were calling "boy", was a man).

22. I'm going to disagree on "boy" somewhat.

I grew up in the Midwest and an older man would CERTAINLY say boy regardless of color.

Examples:

Grocery Store Mgr. Yes, Mrs. Taylor we have the 5lb bag of flour, let me send "my boy" over to drop it off.

My Dad: Hey neighbor, that's a lot of leaves to rake up in your yard, let me send my boy over.

YES I know that it's also a racist thing... but it's used commonly in a non-racial manner

8. "Son" is common among white people to each other

"Boy" is absolutely directed towards young black men. Or even older black men. That's why it's so egregious. And you can trace it right on back to slavery days.

I've been called "son" quite a lot in my life, including cops when I was younger. It never registered as being anything other than a generic word directed at young people.

10. context matters.

Yes son may be common between white people. However when a white person uses it in anger against a black grown man its meant to demean which fits the racist playbook. We are not talking about a benevolent older person using it as a term of endearement.

13. I think it's stretching.

Boy, absolutely. Son . . . it's a reach. I've actually never even heard it called a race-related issue until this post.

Son is an age thing. Boy is meant to be denigrating.

There's enough wrong in the world to forego manufacturing new ones.

18. It is NOT stretching.

"Boy" may be more common among racist pricks than "son" but son is just as bad to the ear of this black man. It reeks of malignant paternalism. Especially with a gun aimed at you.

24. Sir is the right word

I can't see calling an adult man anything else even if they were 30 years younger than me. The driver was definitely not 30 years younger than the cop.

Son is a word of domination.

14. To me only my dad or grandfathers could call me son.

I'm not big on people who don't know me calling bro either. None of my friends even called me that. Neither did my brother or sister. Maybe that was a generation thing though.

9. That whole incident was grotesque.

What is terrifying is the conflicting commands. The LT is told to keep his hand out the window, but also exit the vehicle. With seat belt fastened and door handle inside, he would have to reach inside and I have little doubt he would have been shot.

It seems to me a case of rural cops fucking with someone.

19. That might have been the whole point

of conflicting orders. Would give them an excuse to shoot when he reached down to unhook the belt. "I thought he was getting his gun."

Simple case of no plates easily resolved when the sticker was visible. Absolutely zero reason to order him out of the car. They acted like they had caught the FBI's #1 most wanted.

and they were chasing a black teen through the woods.
One of the police something said, "We got ya, boy." I can't remember the exact phrase, but he definitely used it in a racist manner.
I was surprised to hear it on the show.

17. These fascist cops make me want to puke!

At the end of the engagement the fascist cops are trying desperately to convince the active duty United States Army Officer that the whole thing was his fault! They knew they were in trouble.
He did nothing wrong. He broke no law. He is not a criminal. Police are employed for LAW enforcement.
If you have committed no crime the police have NO NONE NADA authority over you. They can't tell you to do shit. Every order they gave was an unlawful order. Searching the active duty United Stated Army Officers car was completely illegal. They did not have a warrant or permission.

The active duty United States Army Officer (who swore an oath to protect our nation against all enemies foreign and DOMESTIC) asked numerous times what was going on. He wanted to know why he was stopped. THE FASCIST COPS KNEW THEY HAD NOTHING AND NEVER ANSWERED HIS QUESTION. There was no traffic violation! They had NO authority. They are law enforcement, not lets dig around and see if we can find something to screw this guy with.

Fascism is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition and strong regimentation of society and of the economy. Police are a very important part of creating a fascist state.
To many police in America believe they are our overlords and masters and we as Americans need to show them the error of their beliefs. Cameras everywhere is FREEDOM. Always record the police.

Even after being pepper sprayed this American hero stayed in control. A stunning display of contrast when you compare the fascist cops complete lack of self control with the American hero's complete control. Tough as nails he is. The fascist cops were on an adrenaline rush and loving it. Sadistic is what that is. Adrenaline rush is addictive.

21. You summed up everything I've been thinking.

And I'm Canadian.

Used to be that snowbirds were always told to drive the speed limit through the Carolinas and Georgia on their way to Florida, because the state troopers had a penchant for stopping Ontario and New York licence-plated cars to impose fines and even lockups in the county jail -- just because it helped the bottom line.

28. Calling a young man "son" isn't necessarily pejorative. Southern racists would never have used

the word "son" because it implies the person could be a family member. The word that humiliated was "boy."

30. I watched the film, "In The Heat Of The Night

a few days ago. I had seen it before. Each time I watch it I get so pissed off that everyone calls a black, out of town cop in Mississippi "boy". It takes place in the 1960s. Everyone in the film called him "boy". I can't believe it still is used. This country is a mess.
