And I would add this instructor's maxim....

"You will not rise to the occasion, you will default to your level of training."

Which suggests that an officer who panics and acts on impulse is doing what he or she is trained to do.

apprehend a fleeing subject especially when they know his identity. Way to many cops with guns that have way to little training.

the option to physically detain, handcuff and arrest people for very minor offenses should also be prohibited. Unless one has been living under a rock, it's obvious white cops typically treat blacks much more roughly, threatening to arrest or even kill them for the slightest offense if they don't immediately comply.

Approaching a car with guns or tasers drawn, screaming out menacing and conflicting instruction, always laced with profanities, should not be allowed. The option to physically detain and arrest people for minor offenses should be taken off the table. It just provides cops with an excuse to brutalize certain people.

cops must get out of the mind set that they should always use the maximum amount of force available to them on every suspect (or at least the black ones ), on every occasion, no matter how small an offense is involved, whether the person is armed or not, and regardless of the circumstances surrounding the incident.

I'm sick and tired of cops who seem to operate on the assumption that black or brown skin automatically means "this person is extremely dangerous and should be treated as a direct threat to my personal safety, if not my life, using any amount of force I feel like using." That mindset is at the core of many (if not most) of these incidents where poc end up being murdered by cops for ridiculously trivial reasons.

Swat can still have them, but common officers go back to like London Bobby’s. Tasers and batons. Just try it out for a few months. See if it makes a difference in the common traffic stops. See if the citizens feel more comfortable. Just try it and see. If it doesn’t work and a bunch of cops get injured or die, then go back. But if the unnecessary killings end, then great. We can be civil. People are inherently civil.

... needs to be relieved of their duties immediately.

Retraining is a must, also re-evaluation as to whether this person should even be on the police force. This is above and beyond any legal actions that need to be taken against the LEO for his/her error in judgement.

Every lame excuse must be disallowed, and every error must be dealt with harshly but fairly. No mistakes with weapons should ever be permitted, especially when citizens are involved.

I LOVE protest posters. They can really boil an issue down to its essence. I guess the limits of a piece of cardboard can really focus the mind. Sure makes it succinct.
