(3,686 posts)Now maybe we can heal from the nightmare, and other police will think twice before they murder young black men.
I keep thinking of the little 9 year old girl who witnessed the murder of George Floyd, and then testified in the trial. The sad truth is that 9 year olds have been seeing terrible cruelty for a long, long time. I hope that the verdict helps here deal with being exposed to such violence.

(3,686 posts)Imagine her parents trying to explain that one. How would you help your 9 year old understand that level of cruelty? Poor kid. She can never ever forget.
Justice was served thank God. But it would have been much better if Chauvin let him live.
Fucking senseless.

(73,637 posts)as I was when one of my uncles was murdered in a bar, after winning a game of cards. There was a sore loser.
I didn't witness it, and so my experience doesn't compare to her's. But I remember that night, and I know the impact it had on me and the extended family.
She will never forget this. I hope that she becomes stronger, not because of this experience, but despite it.

It is, in a very real way, sad that there was any question that Chauvin is guilty as sin. It is good to see the justice system work correctly. It will be better, exactly as you say, when human beings are not required to die or be injured for justice to rule.

What is the Age of Aquarius, and when does it begin? The Age of Aquarius isnt part of astronomy. Its an astrological age, which occurs because of a real motion of Earth known as precession. Precession is what causes the identity of the Pole Star to change over time. The cycle of precession lasts 25,800 years, and there are 12 constellations of the zodiac. So, roughly every 2,150 years, the suns location in front of the background stars at the time of the March, or vernal, equinox moves in front of a new zodiacal constellation. The Age of Aquarius begins at the point when the sun is no longer in front of the constellation Pisces at the time of the March equinox. At that point sometimes called the March equinox point, or vernal equinox point the equinox sun will be in front of the constellation Aquarius.

When does the Age of Aquarius start?
The exact starting date of this new age is up for debate. Some astrologers suggest it starts on the vernal equinox on March 20, 2021 in the northern hemisphere, while others, such as Kelly, focus on the conjunction that occurred in December 2020. Its more conceptual than you might think, she says. There isnt any firm agreement on when it starts. What we do know is, generally speaking, this is an age thats associated with hope and innovation. When it last occurred, in the 19th century, it proved to be a time of revolutions in technology, industry and government. These are all Aquarian traits.
A time of rebirth and renewal
The Age of Aquarius foretells a shift beyond technological and medical innovations and calls for a better way of working with each other and a greater sense of community spirit. When we find ourselves in a period of uncertainty, volatility, fear and death, like now, its scary, says Kelly. Plus, you get all those things that come along with being afraid: scapegoating, paranoia, delusion and pointing fingers. We have to acknowledge and treat that impulse.
Aquarius is thought to be characterised by intelligence and coming together in an effort to create something for the greater good. We have to become critical thinkers, Kelly continues. We need to be thoughtful and conscientious about how we are showing up for our communities. I know there is a lot of tension surrounding individuals and collective responsibilities right now.
Aquarius is all about collective responsibility. We will hopefully be learning how to be part of a larger system, as opposed to just caring about oneself and our immediate family. This is one of the most important lessons that well need to learn if we are to be in a much better situation when we exit this age than we are as we enter it.

(3,686 posts)I hope we are in a new age. As a country we have really been through hell. If something like this came out of it we might really begin to heal as a nation and grow spiritually.
Joe Biden could very well be a transformational president, presiding over a new age.
Beautiful thought. I hope its true.

(3,686 posts)I felt a real sense of relief, physically.
I hadnt even noticed how tensed up I was the past year.
My shoulders are down and I feel more at peace and at ease. Weve got such a long way to go.
But :
Biden is president
I am fully vaccinated
George Floyd has received justice
Its a start.

(73,637 posts)a start. A good start.
When the drunken thug was being tried for shooting my cousin & son, there were several NYS Police who testified against him. So I knew that law enforcement could do that. But this was the first time that I am aware of that law enforcement officers testified against a white cop for murdering a black man.
It's a start.

(269,219 posts)I have a lot of "favorite" songs by Marley, Tosh, and Marley-Tosh. I found myself listening to Peter's "Downpresser Man" last night. One need not "read between the lines" to get Peter's message on that one!
