(27,217 posts)It's overwhelming.
I am so relieved and so sad at the same time.

(7,702 posts)...a little black girl is killed by a white cop.
When will it ever end?

(5,559 posts)I can see that as justified, police took a life to protect a life.
Goes to show that a string of inexcusable killings by police doesn't mean that they are wrong in every instance where they use deadly force. These need to be considered based in their own individual circumstances.
(That being said to hell with Chauvin, hope he spends a lot of quality time in a cell)
True Dough
(17,354 posts)I wouldn't feel the least bit of sympathy if Chauvin has seen his last day as a free citizen. He sacrificed that right when he callously took George Floyd's life.

(29,322 posts)She is in Foster care and a group of older kids threatened her with assault and she could have been defending herself by the time the cops showed up.
I think police could have handled the situation differently but he probably won't face any charges.
True Dough
(17,354 posts)does NOT involve drawing one's arm back with a knife in hand to stab another individual. She put the life of another person in jeopardy. That much is a fact -- one we can witness with our own eyes, just like we did when Chauvin kneeled on George Floyd's neck for nine minutes.

(29,322 posts)She claimed to be threatened by older kids who were fighting outside her house.

(17,354 posts)Thrusting a knife into another human being is not the answer.

(17,354 posts)All you know is there's been a complaint about threats. Then you witness this melee and you don't know who's who. Within seconds, one female is on the verge of stabbing another, right before your eyes. You can't just stand there. It was a tragic and unfortunate incident, but there's culpability in this case.

(29,322 posts)It takes awhile for police to show up and the person won't leave but by the time you defend yourself the police show up and shoot you instead.
This situation is why I don't call the police or feel the police are the answers to my problems.
I remember a middle aged white man went on a shooting spree and was apprehended alive. He had bruises in his mugshot but he was still alive.
https://www.cnn.com/2015/03/19/us/arizona-mesa-shootings
I also remember Dylan Roof was taken to Burger King and Kyle Rittenhouse was waived through after shooting multiple people and he is a hero to the right wing and police donated to his fund.
In the AA forum at DU people used to post stories of White people apprehended alive by police.

(17,354 posts)But anytime a person is in the midst of stabbing another person, or about the pull the trigger on a gun with their sights trained on another individual, they are putting themselves in harm's way when the police arrive.

(17,354 posts)I've seen clips from numerous encounters where minorities, African Americans, are shot after mild or passive resistance. I'm outraged by such occurrences and I'm fully in favor of an overhaul of the policing system and its training. I'd prefer to see more mental health professionals involved in responding to distress calls.
But, again, if you pull a knife on someone and you draw your hand back with obvious intent to stab them, you can fully expect a police officer to protect the life of the individual you're threatening to kill or seriously harm. Let's not forget Jon, in this instance, the cop took the life of a violently aggressive Black woman to save the life of another Black woman.

(29,322 posts)Hazel Bryant, who identified herself as MaKhias aunt, told the Daily Beast that her niecewho was alternately identified in reports as being 15 and named Makiyahwas shot at a foster home where she had been living. Bryant claimed the incident began when several adult women went to the residence and started an altercation with MaKhia. The aunt said the teen had called police as well as some relatives for help, and then armed herself with a knife for protection.

People keep glossing over this point and act like the cop saved lives when he killed the person that was in danger.
True Dough
(17,354 posts)That is obvious from the video and you keep glossing over that fact!

I already said the cop likely won't face charges and I feel they should have handled it differently and I stand by that.

(17,354 posts)even if they are verbally threatening you.
And it's the easiest thing in the world to armchair quarterback a situation where a cop has to make a split-second decision without even knowing who is who. All he sees is one person about to stab another. He wasn't on the scene long enough to establish who was the complainant and who was the alleged victim. And that's the thing, none of us know the full story anyway. But we do know she was prepared to badly hurt or kill someone else.

I'm not armchair quarterbacking the teenage girl who felt threatened to the point where she called the cops and felt she had to defend herself until they showed up. The only thing I would armchair quarterback is not calling the cops but she is dead so she can't make that mistake again.
True Dough

I was here when that happened and the LEO fondlers were defending Zimmerman even though he wasn't a cop.
I'm sure the CC trolls are also defending this shooting.
