We need to no longer look what the GOP stands for.
Their undying support for Corporate tax cuts, special provisions for them, as well as their hands out for their money for their campaigns. Today's GOP is about Power, Voter Suppression, and serving the 1%.
What say you?

(7,432 posts)There's been no change in the GOP's agenda for decades, and perhaps more than a century. They've always phonied up their agenda to look like they're for the common folk, but have always lied to get the wealthy whatever they wanted. That's always been the simple fact.

It wouldn't be the GOP without those crucial parts of its agenda.

(5,275 posts)Saw Boehner on Colbert a few days ago. He was no prize but is no fan of lots of his current party members. Toward the end of it Colbert threw out names asking Boehner his short impression of them. CBS had to bleep out a few of his responses like Ted Cruz of whom Boehner said effing idiot.
The Republicans have turned hard right since Boehner, led by Moscow Mitch.

(54,414 posts)The extremist right doesn't just exist to protect or secure great wealth, and the more one obsesses over that narrow theme, the more one overlooks the greater danger. They still get massive amounts of votes from the lower-income masses who have been brainwashed into thinking that minorities are out there to "take" from them--their jobs, their guns, their children, their god, their peace of mind. The people who want to do this are "libbruls," led by evil billionaires (sound familiar?), such a George Soros, Bill Gates, etc. These are people who have enjoyed some education, but are mostly not exactly Rhodes scholars. There ARE Rhodes scholars among them, but these are the manipulators, not the manipulated. The manipulated really believe the Taliban is just over the next hill, ready to impose Sharia law and make everyone learn the Koran. The manipulators know that is BS, but say nothing, because letting the masses believe that it is how they keep manipulating the manipulated.
The manipulators are the Tom Cotton types. The manipulated break down windows at the Capitol, but they are also the ones in Council Bluffs, Iowa or Anguilla, Mississippi who give the last $7.32 on their bank balance to their megachurch because Jesus said to do it. They watch Fox "News" as their only source of information, and actually believe every word they hear. They support voter suppression not because they think they will cheat Democrats out of the right to vote, but because they honestly believe that voter fraud is being perpetrated by Democrats on a massive scale. Not where THEY live, of course, but somewhere "out there," and on a massive scale. This is a battle of perception and manipulation of perception, and "tax the rich" isn't going to change that. It is a far subtler and cleverer enemy that opposes us, and we need to put up defenses on many fronts.
