Fox News has spent the past year warning viewers about the non-existent dangers of transgender student-athletes. The channel has spent more time on the topic in just the first months of this year than it did in the past two years combined.
With 126 segments on the topic since 2019, the channel was only able to reference nine athletes from around the nation and more than a third of those segments were about two former high school students who havent competed in years. None of the athletes dominated their sport.
The channel has aired 72 discussions about trans-student athletes since January 1. None of them framed transgender people in a positive light. Anchors, hosts, and guests also referenced the topic another 58 times according to the watchdog group Media Matters.
The two girls mentioned most often Andraya Yearwood and Terry Miller, who are both Black trans runners from Connecticut were targeted by the religious right and the anti-LGBTQ hate group Alliance Defending Freedom. A group of parents filed a court case seeking to prevent them from competing; the case was dismissed.

(22,156 posts)nail them for blowing up issue(s) when there is nothing to blow up. They claim freedom of the press but I suspect something else far more sinister at work/at hand here w/ the way they hype up non-issues for no public value and if anything, they are putting others at risk.

(82,849 posts)But, okay, Democrats are bad at messaging because conservatives have absolutely no scruples or conscience when it comes to just making up shit with no basis in reality.

(11,742 posts)Republicans absolutely have no ethics, and will lie endlessly to promote their agenda. They never argue in good faith because 1. They likely know that an honest presentation of their argument would be rejected out of hand. 2. They think that their ideology is ordained by god so any means by which they can get it pushed through is acceptable. 3. They are paid handsomely by wealthy people who really don't care that much about the actual issue, but want conservatives in power to promote their economic agenda, so whatever tactics they can use are what they will use.
That said, Democrats are kind of bad at messaging. Not because there are rules and conventions, but because we tend to expect that people are informed about issues and interested in policy proposals, when the majority are not really interested in that. People tend to be motivated by concepts and emotional connections.
You have a group of conservatives who argue that "facts don't care about your feelings" and accuse people on the left of always being outraged, yet the primary way that conservatives try to motivate their followers is through anger, resentment, and outrage at "cancel culture", LGBT people going into your kid's bathrooms, and scary Black people or dirty Mexican immigrants moving into your neighborhoods. Trans people wanting to continue playing sports is just another front in their effort to emotionally arouse people about some feign injustice.
They (conservatives) think that trans people are trying to cheat to win, because conservatives would almost always cheat to win, so why wouldn't trans people?
