SEN. BILL CASSIDY: Yeah, so the policies really worked. Before Covid hit, we had the best economy we've had in my lifetime.

Economic growth (GDP) had been declining for the entirety of 2019. Six months before anyone heard of Covid-19, the U.S. Manufacturing Sector entered recession. Three weeks prior to the first death from covid on February 29th, 2020 and six weeks before the partial national lockdown in the third week of March, the huge U.S. service sector had entered recession. If there were no pandemic, the national economy would have still crashed into recession early in March 2020. The 1st QTR GDP was -4.8%.
