I looked up the number and it's out of Fresno. I'm going to assume that is Devin Nunes' territory? Not sure why anyone connected to that miscreant would be calling a Democrat in Michigan.

(32,645 posts)It can tell when the caller is (1) not a live person and (2) using a fake caller ID name or no name to confuse you. Nomorobo allows me to block up to 100 numbers in a 3-month period, and I usually keep that full of unwanted numbers.
When the caller ID on my phone displays a person's name that I recognize, then I answer the call. When it displays anything else I let it go to voicemail. There's still a chance it could be someone I'd like to talk to, so I listen to the message. If they don't leave a message, I KNOW it's a spam caller.
Life is so much easier and calmer now that I have Nomorobo.

(26,268 posts)One ring and the nuisance call disappears. Most of the time. Otherwise, I have the same routine - if I don't recognize the name, I don't answer.
And sometimes when I DO recognize the name, I let it go to voicemail. One night 'McLaren Hospital' showed up on my caller ID - it's a local hospital. It was about 9 at night and I FREAKED out, thinking someone had been in an accident. Turns out it was a 'spoofed' call. I went from freaked to livid.

(32,645 posts)Verizon needs to stop that from happening. These spoofing callers almost always call from from Asia, India, or someplace else. 100% are nuisance/spam.

Campaigns get phone numbers from all sorts of weird sources such as balanced rewards rosters, My Life, Been Verified etc. There are tons of wrong numbers in those sources. I had like 10 wrong numbers associated with my name!!!
With cell phones, area codes no longer indicate residency. It also could have been a generic nationwide call to support the ousting Liz Cheney...
I get spam from Republicans and the politician will personalize the message as,
"Alicia
The radical left is doing .........
Please if you do not support the radical left, donate to......
John Cornyn"
My name is not Alicia...Cornyn apparently has a wrong email address for one of his supporters who is named Alicia.
The only accurate info in campaign files is your name and address which is obtained from election officials. The rest of that stuff, like phone numbers and emails are "pie in the sky" stuff.
