Congressional leadership will have their first joint meeting with President Biden this week amid a GOP reckoning about the future of the party heading into 2022.
The Senate is returning from a one-week break on Monday, while the House will return to Washington on Tuesday after being out for three weeks when much action took place off the floor.
Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Senate GOP Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.) and House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will meet with Biden on Wednesday.
Its the first time Biden has met with the four top congressional leaders as a group since being inaugurated in January. It will also be his first meeting with McConnell and McCarthy.
The meeting is expected to largely focus on Bidens $4 trillion spending plan, which is divided up between a $2.3 trillion jobs proposal and a second $1.8 trillion bill focused on education and child care.

(19,066 posts)And he knows that Mitch and McCarthy have to public say one thing while they may privately work on getting some things done. While they have to publicly oppose the big things Joe wants to do, smaller bills are getting passed and doing a lot of good. Like the $35 Billion clean water bill that just passed the Senate 96-4. It does a lot of good, and Dems will just keep quiet about how good it was because they want to give the Reps cover to do more with them together. Joe sees ways to get somethings done together.
