Brooklyn Public Library re-opens

Expanding Our Services
Starting today, BPL is expanding our available services to include browsing and computer use at these 13 branches throughout the borough:

Brownsville Library
Canarsie Library
Central Library
Clinton Hill Library
Coney Island Library
Crown Heights Library
Flatbush Library
Fort Hamilton Library
Greenpoint Library
Kings Highway Library
Midwood Library
Mill Basin Library
Red Hook Library

These libraries are open from 10am to 4pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and from 1pm to 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

What's available?

You can now visit these 13 locations to:
Browse the shelves: Patrons can browse first-floor shelves and check out books and materials at the checkout desk, or use self-check machines or the BPL mobile app. At Central Library, librarians can also assist patrons by retrieving books from our storage shelves.
Use the computers and printers: Patrons can call the branch in advance or visit the service desk to reserve up to two computer sessions per day, or send documents to quick release printers. Note: you cannot reserve computers in advance at Central Library; that location is walk-in only.
Register, renew or upgrade a library card: Activate a new library card (you can apply in advance on our website) renew a card, or upgrade an eCard.
Holds pickup & returns: Patrons can pick up the books they've reserved in advance and return books and other materials.
Apply for a passport or IDNYC (by appointment only): Available only at Central Library, patrons can make an appointment to visit Passport Services or IDNYC.

Masks are required for both patrons and staff. You will be unable to enter the branch without a mask.

Please limit your time inside to one hour. You may be asked to leave if you have exceeded that time.

What's next?

We're working towards opening additional locations for expanded services in the coming weeks, and are aiming to have all available locations open for expanded services by mid-July. Learn more about our phased reopening plan here.

You can continue to check our location map to see whether your closest library is part of our next phase of reopening locations, or you can call any open location if you need help with your account, have questions about reopening services, or if you'd like help reserving a book for pickup.

What else?

Here are just some of BPL's programs and services that are available online and outdoors:

Bklyn Reach: We extended our WiFi signal up to 300 feet outside of select branches so you can access the internet 24 hours a day.

BPL Outdoors: Join us outside for library card registration, storytime, laptop loans, reading rooms and more.

Virtual Programs: Our online events include storytime, resume help, cooking class and yoga.

Culture Pass: Enjoy a variety of virtual programs hosted by NYC's museums and theaters.

Central Library Renovation

Central Library is better than ever!

The next time you visit Central Library, you might notice it looks a little different! We completed phase one of the building's revitalization and officially opened five public spaces: Major Owens Welcome Center, New & Noteworthy, Civic Commons, the new Business & Career Center, and the renovated Grand Lobby.

You can learn more about Central Library's renovations and preview the five public spaces at bklynlib.org/central-renovation.
