"I drank alcohol during quarantine," Paltrow told The Mirror. "I was drinking seven nights a week and making pasta and eating bread. I went totally off the rails. I mean, who drinks multiple drinks seven nights a week? Like, thats not healthy."

"I love whiskey and I make this fantastic drink called the Buster Paltrow, which I named after my grandfather who loved whiskey sours," Paltrow explained. "And its this great quinoa whiskey from this distillery in Tennessee with maple syrup and lemon juice. Its just heaven. I would have two of those every night of quarantine."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, binge drinking is defined as, for women, consuming four or more alcoholic beverages on a single occasion (five for men), while heavy drinking is considered to be having eight or more drinks a week for women, or 15 or more for men.

Paltrow's not the only one who experienced an uptick in alcohol consumption amid the pandemic. A survey study published in September found that alcohol consumption increased by 14 percent in 2020 in comparison to 2019, with women reporting a 41 percent increase in the number of days they drank heavily.
She did come up with for a new product: "This Candle Smells Like My Barf!"

(4,198 posts)if she wants to have a day where she does nothing all day, so be it, she can. If it lasts months, so what. Rich people like that had zero hardship during the lockdown.

(33,345 posts)In France and Italy and Spain, they'd laugh at that CDC "heavy drinking" definition. That's 1 glass of wine Sunday to Thursday, and 2 on Friday and Saturday. Whoop de do.
Gwyneth needs to stop beating herself up.
Arazi
(6,829 posts)Sometimes 2 glasses with dinner, and a cognac after dinner.
Europeans have a much different measure of "heavy drinking"

(100,081 posts)I'm a social drinker. I stopped seeing the point of getting drunk at home by myself a long time ago. So for me not going to bars or parties or hanging with friends means I haven't drank as much as I normally would!
That said I do have a refrigerator full of beer and am looking for excuses to have people over!

(57,106 posts)... and a six pack it took most of last year to drink. Since the election we've had a couple of bottle of Moscato, a bottle of a sparkling Shiraz (knocked my socks off it was soo good) and a bottle of Sofia sparkling rose'.
We're like you: drinking alone feels like call for help.
Initech
(100,081 posts)If I'm out drinking that's one thing, but if I am home drinking that's something else. I do like drinking beer or wine at home but I usually lay off the hard stuff. I save that for social occasions. And also when I'm not driving!
