Bwah!1 The Texas wingnut circular firing squad - Allen WEST quits, maybe running against ABBOTT!1

*Run*, Allen, *RUN* - obviously not to wish him success!

ABBOTT already has one wingnut primarying him (HUFFINES) with another whackjob Sid MILLER thinking about it. YeSSss!

As for WEST having criticized ABBOTT over handling the pandemic, it wasn't for efficiency's sake, it was wingnut criticism as not being wingnut *enough*.

Texas GOP Chair Allen West, Who Suggested Secession From the United States, Resigns After Less Than a Year

…. West critics largely maintained that West only ran for Texas GOP Chairman to gain a platform and advance his own interests.

Matt Mackowiak @MattMackowiak
It is now clear that @AllenWest’s entire tenure as @TexasGOP chair was intended to do only what many suspected: Provide him a platform for his political future, not an opportunity to build the party.
Allen West inherited a strong party passed down from the heroic efforts of Steve Munisteri, ably transitioned and sustained by the work ethic of successor @jamesdickey after Tom Mechler’s failed reign. Now, the party is in the weakest financial position in at least 10 years.

Throughout his time as chairman, West publicly condemned Gov. Greg Abbott’s (TX-R) handling of the coronavirus, taking issue with the “litany of executive orders, mandates, decrees, and edicts” enacted amid the pandemic lockdowns.

According to the the Texas Tribune, while former President Donald Trump has endorsed Abbott for reelection, Allen has not ruled out running for governor. ….

to their base abandoning them? Some of them could be very unhappy with Abbott and Republicans in general

In 2015, West was hired as chief executive officer of the Dallas-based National Center for Policy Analysis, a free market think tank credited with hatching such GOP policy advances as Health Savings Accounts and Roth IRAs.

In less than two years, the nonprofit was bankrupt. A chief financial officer hired during West’s tenure embezzled more than $600,000, and the board ended up accusing West of mismanagement.

* It's probably due more to their ingrained mismanagement stemming from their anti-belief in running things ("government" ) and their corruption.

* Above all, I doubt their base abandons them. Where would their base go? Their base cares nothing about principles, only about taking/keeping POWER.

* Poppy broke ground in nominating wingnuts who are Minorities (theoretically a Dem constituency) Clarence THOMAS, as a way to hamstring Dems, a most cynical move, since they are willing to window dress their inherent racism for the sake of taking/keeping power, cynically using as TOOLS Minority members open to being COLLABORATORS. And it has been a playbook standard for them ever since: Remember "Mee-gwell ESTRADA," how Orrin HATCH pursed his Shirley TEMPLE lips to say he just didn't UNDERSTAND how Dems could "hypocritically" oppose a MINORITY - the Dem answer back then needed to have been, We don't oppose him as a minority - we oppose him as a *WINGNUT*. And continuing the playbook, there's Cancun/Cremlin/Carnival CRUZ, the Exile-spawn, half "minority."

* That said, their surface tool-using of minorities never deletes their core racism. They have contempt for their tools, and Allen WEST's race is not to be ignored in his getting-GONE.
