Another mass shooting - this time in Savannah Georgia?

https://bnonews.com/index.php/2021/06/at-least-9-shot-in-savannah-georgia/\
At least 1 person has been killed and 8 others have been injured in a mass shooting on a residential street in Savannah, Georgia, local officials and witnesses say. Only few details are currently available.

The incident happened at around 9 p.m. on Friday when officers were called for a shooting in the 200 block of Avery Street, a residential area near the Savannah River. It is part of the Fred Wessels Homes neighborhood.

Bianca Johnson, a spokeswoman for the Savannah Police Department, told BNO News that nine people were found with gunshot wounds, including one person who died. Johnson initially said two people died but later issued a correction, saying only one death had been confirmed.

Several other victims were being treated at area hospitals for injuries which appeared to be serious or critical, Johnson said. Two further victims, a 2-year-old who was struck in the foot area and a 13-year-old, suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Austin too, and across the country. Can't blame the Pandemic because this type of gun violence has been going on for years.

One culprit is the republican party and the total taken out of content bullshit of the 2nd Amendment which I'm pretty sure the Founding Fathers did not envision this.

Profit over lives.

This is madness - weapons are very profitable and not only guns - have a look at the global arms trade.

spreading their freedom seeds. I’m sure the founding fathers knew that someday muzzle loading rifles would turn into mass execution machines when they wrote them there constitution.

By and large the shooters don't appear to be active maga-types. Some seem to be what I might loosely think of as low-lifes. Down and out, with resentment, issues, and perceived unfairness/injustice. Maybe they hear a lot of mental discord from maga-types? 'The world's so unfair, everything stolen from us' kind of thing.

I'm groping as much as the rest of us, so feel free to grab the rudder.

The family knew he had schizophrenia and guns.
He talked about hurting babies on social media.
He shot and killed a one year old baby and his 69 year old grandmother.

6. Law enforcement needs to collect certain information from shooters when possible.

Meaning, when they don’t die at the scene. There is often speculation about the motive, but the information needed is the media they consumed. Which websites? Which TV news? Which radio stations and programs? This information can also sometimes be obtained from friends and relatives of the shooter. I believe there is a very strong correlation between consuming negative media and mass shootings, but we need the data. I think the DOJ needs to add media to their database of information about mass murderers and domestic terrorists and require local law enforcement to supply data.

Given the interpretation of First Amendment rights, it’s difficult to craft laws that don’t run afoul of free speech, but if we allow the current propaganda and hatred to continue, we will have a civil war. The Republican leaders are absolutely shameless in their continued stoking of anger over blatant lies. I wish there was some way to hold them accountable other than voting them out of office. That doesn’t work all that well when too many people vote for the R without expecting any moral values.

Gun shootings (largely gang-related) are up so some people are buying more guns that they think will help protect themselves.

And though gangs and drugs are a large part of the problem they are only a part. 60% of mass shooters have a history of domestic violence.

Did I infer WHO was buying guns or WHY they were doing so? Was there any implication that gun ownership was predicated on any particular demographic? Are you a rhetoric psychic who can discern the meaning hidden in what is otherwise plain speech or divine the thoughts and intent secreted into the myriad crevasses of English words? Tell me seer, can you smell the facts, lost midst the scents mixed in hyperbole to seduce the vulnerable reader?

Or is there really a lot more gang violence than I know about? I try to stay clear of ugliness when possible. My cousin's youngest was killed by gang related gun fire, from a moving vehicle, as he was riding his bicycle with friends in Chicago in 2003. Apparently took a short cut and found himself on the wrong block at the wrong time. Has it gotten worse? I guess it could drive a here-to-fore poor unarmed person to buy their own "protection". And there's where the fun begins. A person who's never owned a gun before may just be sorely tempted to try that sucker out at the first opportunity.

More guns = more safety for all. Right?

I'm sure you despise the obscenity laden world in which that sort of logic makes cold lost killers of hopeful parent's babies as much as anyone. Watch your step, pilgrim, there's mischief about.

Remember those campaign ads where they said if Joe got elected, there would be all kinds of violence and bloodshed? I'm starting to think that some of these evil rethugs are behind this to try to prove a point. I hope I'm wrong. Now it's time to tighten gun laws anyway.

recently the Columbia school of Journalism held a symposium on how gun violence is covered. I think the increased coverage of something that has been here all along is a product of that awareness. The coverage is also improving, less 'stick a microphone in someone's face and asking how it feels' and more sympathetic coverage of victims without glorifying the shooter.
