https://www.sfgate.com/politics/article/Gavin-Newsom-recall-timeline-when-Republicans-date-16241523.phpFor weeks, prominent California Democrats have talked openly about accelerating the timeline for the Gov. Gavin Newsom recall election, hoping to schedule the contest before the governor could face more political trouble in the fall.
"He has rebounded well with vaccines and budget," state Sen. Steve Glazer tweeted on May 21. "His biggest threats are the unknowns: virus variant, fires, school reopening. No reason to delay and give opposition any more running room."

While most had previously anticipated a recall election sometime in late October or early November near the peak of wildfire season the acceleration means recall election day could be scheduled for as early as late August or early September.
California Republicans were not happy.

(15,036 posts)any and all of these problems (and many, many more) could happen, and the longer we wait, the greater the chance they will. None would specifically be Newsom's fault, but his critics would blame him -- and he alone -- no matter what the problem may be. So if the recall is moved forward, less chance of misfortune befalling us all.
It's a good strategy. And really, what can the Republicans say about it -- yeah, we want him gone but let's not be too hasty?

(9,123 posts)The oppositiin to rational thought and solutions to climate change is nowhere to be found in that now dangerously ignorant party.
But since fire season is 12 months long, we're not sure what to expect.

(92,242 posts)months to extend the deadline to get enough signatures
They have already failed previously when they tried to get signatures for the recall, so this time the judge moved the timeline so they wouldnt
They have already wasted too much of the states money with this recall, and I am not surprised the republicans would try and pull this crap to extend the timeline for the recall vote.
Enough is enough
Trump repukes are behind this bullshit
We need to crush this recall effort soundly.
They played this game against Davis,, which they portrayed as the energy crisis, which at that time was the manipulation of Enron and other companies creating an artificial shortage, and we got Arnold, which put our stat deeply in debt
It took Jerry Brown to pull us out of the financial mess the republicans left us
We should not depend on any favorable poll numbers, we need to insure we have a massive turnout, not only as a statement against the republicans lies and hate machine, but a republican Governor would be a disaster for the state. Remember that it is the Governor who fills the position of a Senator if they end their term early
Of corse they want to extend the timeline for the vote because the polls currently look bad for the recall effort, and they hope to combine this with midterm timeline

(15,334 posts)to overhaul this ridiculous recall process.
It should never be so easy, and costly for some butthurt dipshits to throw a fucking tantrum.
I'd start by raising the required signature number to over 50% of eligible voters, and make the recall proponents pay for the cost of the election.
Retrumplicans will just pull this shit over and over again unless it's changed.
They don't believe in democracy. It shouldn't be so easy for them to destroy it!

(12,660 posts)However, statistically, a15 to 20% electorate signature requirement would be more representative of a non-partisan disapproval of an elected official than a flat 2 million signatures of an electorate that's close to 22 million.
That's 4.5 million right now, but it should be able shift with the population.
And honestly, the CA proposition system should require percentage also, perhaps 10% -15%?
That would go a long way into fixing our rather broken proposition system.
