Exactly why we need academic frameworks like CRT.

I heard and have repeated this statement many times in the past couple of weeks. Conservatives, and unfortunately many typically liberal White allies, have responded very defensively to the idea of CRT, which has been around and taught at the Graduate School level since the 1970's.

"People don't want history taught, they want mythology taught". History is messy and can reflect poorly on a society if that society has engaged in significantly destructive acts. However history is a tool, which shows society where it came from and why some of the practices that are still in place today, came to be. It helps us to understand ourselves and make the best choices with public policy.

When you teach history in a dishonest way, glossing over significant problems in society. When you set yourself up as an infallible society, then you set yourself up for what happened on January 6th, where the group of people who took to heart that America is just great and can do no wrong get upset when that story is shown to be false.

If you want children to say the Pledge of Allegiance & to bring (Christian) prayer into schools, but don’t want them to learn about the history of slavery & Juneteenth, then you are pro-indoctrination & anti-education. It’s that simple.

I rarely agree with a statement of "It's that simple" but this certainly is.
