Both he and Bill O'Reilly have been on "Finding Your Roots" ... and it turns out they are "DNA cousins." As time goes by, thet keeps becoming more understandable.

(18,486 posts)I used to be a fan and then he got less and less funny and more and more mean. But when he started attacking religion in such hateful terms, I turned him off for good.
It's one thing to be an atheist or even to think that religion is a crock, but his viciousness and condescension toward people who believe is way over the line - and is no more acceptable than religious fundamentalists' hateful attacks on people who don't share their beliefs. It's just the other side of the same coin.

(46,043 posts)When he called the tail hook mess "boys being boys." Every single one of his guests, including the men, told him he was full of it. And when he declared "maybe women just aren't good at math and science." I guess the overt racism came later.
I watched a few minutes of "Religulous" before ejecting it from the DVD player. He had to make fun of some ultra conservative Jewish men because they had curls, were wearing funny hats, and were dancing. Dancing! Who ever heard such a stoopid thing as men dancing?
It's easy to find stuff in the bible that's ridiculous. It's a cheap shot, and many, many DUers do it. But we have lots of perfectly wonderful atheists here who don't care if some people believe in what they consider myths, as long as those people behave like decent human beings.

(9,073 posts)He's famously anti-woke. So there's a rant that he isn't woke enough.
I hope Cross isn't holding her breath on this one. He's just going to see her comments as a badge.
That's the thing about people like Maher - who I often agree with when it comes to woke culture.
Once you don't care anymore, these rants do nothing to you.

(7,521 posts)Maher has had a national audience for over two decades that is in the top 15 of cable shows in the ratings. Cross has a little Saturday show with abysmal ratings. With, of course, your usual snark.

(53,776 posts)politically aware/progressive. Right wingers, and unfortunately the MSM and many on social media, not knowing what it really means, have twisted it to a negative connotation, something completely different than what it really is. Kind of the same way they've created a negative about CRT and ran with it.
Many others have also bought into that negative.

(53,776 posts)many times. I stopped watching him too and just see the reports of his missteps.
Does anyone know if he's commented on CRT yet as that's a potential mine field for someone so assured (perhaps misplaced) of their own progressive bonafides.

(4,243 posts)Bill Maher would denigrate Hillary Clinton as an older lady in pant suits, while bragging about his escapades at the Playboy mansion. He's an old man who fancies himself a young stud - what a damn hypocrite. I always hated him for that. I figure he is afraid of getting old, of losing his affluence, his influence, of becoming "less than" - so what does he do? He denigrates those around him.

(11,631 posts)That was awesome thank you so much for sharing. She has him pegged spends most of his time trashing liberals I am still angry at myself for spending $100 to take my wife to his show a few years back. Occasionally I will tune in because he has guests I find interesting and each time I remember what an angry self hating ass he is and why I stopped watching regularly. Thanks for the $million for Obama now go away and get yourself right.

(3,922 posts)A link to today's NYP column by the "conservative" (read: idiot) Gianno Caldwell.
Seems that Mr. Maher is fond of meeting scum like his buddy Ann Coulter at the Polo Club for cocktails where they can commiserate on issues near and dear to them. The following describes a meeting with Coulter, Caldwell, and Maher.
An excerpt: "As we waited for Maher to arrive, I already felt a rush of excitement from the robust conversation I knew we would have. And robust it was. If you could have been a fly on the wall and heard this conversation, you may have been shocked to learn how reasonable Maher is on some issues."
Too bad.

(14,173 posts)I disagree with some of Mahers takes. But she literally brought up the only three times he's gotten into trouble over his whole show(s) runs. Not even near comparable to some Fox News pundit who gets it wrong over 3 times a day.
Hes a fricken comedian! He is crass. He goes over the line sometimes. And he is purposely looking for excuses to poke, not only the extreme right, but also the PC mad left. Like Tiffany. The crowd to whom you can't make even one mistake over years, let alone 3.
She is exactly what Maher warns us of. Someone who doesn't even watch his show, just from hearsay and others in the PC police, she decides to spend a whole segment bashing another liberal for not getting things exactly right. This is the kind of cancel culture that is not helpful.
His show has helped spread the truth about Trump before the last election in 2016. He was sued for calling Trump an orangutan among other things, he contributed a million bucks to Obama's campaign. He was a fearless representative of the liberal point of view for a long time now. I'm sure this kind of BS will run off his back like all the other BS from the bigoted Right and the confused Left.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)she's a "fool"?
Yes, just dismiss a woman of color who criticizes a white man for his regular insults and mansplaining as a "fool."
And you attack her for "bashing another liberal for not getting things exactly right"?
Speaking of representing what someone is criticizing ...
It's pretty obvious that Tiffany Cross hit some folks a little too close to home ...
