There are people here on DU who are not as smart as I am.

There are people here on DU who are smarter than I am.

Though I too often fail to do either, it is my intent to be kind and patient with the former and listen to and learn from the latter.

I'm sure the good folks here will remind me of the above when I am either disrespectful or especially obtuse.

I am currently waiting to get in to see my doctor in the morning. All evidence suggests that, on top of re-injuring mt hip & leg, I again have lyme disease. I'm not exactly sure where that ranks me for smart or stupid.

It aggravates ‘em. You’re not gonna change any of them by talkin’ right, they’ve got to want to learn themselves, and when they don’t want to learn there’s nothing you can do but keep your mouth shut or talk their language.”

but, depending on how one measures intelligence, there is a smartest and least smart DUer, and the rest of us just muddle along between them, dipping and rising.

Shortly after signing up, I asked a poster an innocent question which led to an all caps 'shouting' response followed by a couple of gut kicks from his friends as they rushed to soothe him.

Despite our commonalities, things do sometimes get heated.

Often have things to teach me. They often know tricks to get thru life and have experienced things I haven’t.

My father in Law was no genius. But he taught me a super easy to hang a door and the best way to use a hand truck and dolly. None of my computer programming friends know shit about those things.

I helped a good friend who is much smarter than I change the leaf springs on his boat trailer. He was about useless without instructions. I’d never done it before, but was willing to get in there and sweat and bleed to get it done. He still brags on me about that 20 years later. I’ve been doing things like that my whole life. It scared him. I also have helped convince him we need universal healthcare. He works with his mind. I do too. But in a different way.

I figure every earnest person has something to teach me.

Have a good week.

Don't worry. When people can hide behind a screen name, they tend to be the most vicious. The second time they do that is when they think you don't understand their language. I ran into that until I was fluent in Mandarin.

Social media and this pandemic has turned a lot of people feral, especially when the internet allows a person to be the most rude without repercussion.

People like me, who are running for political office, have no private life, and everything we say and don't say, and everything we do and don't do, is under a microscope. My life is now out there for all the belittle, admonish, criticize, and second-guess.

Is the comment disrespectful and especially obtuse? I am not smart enough to evaluate it, but maybe you can re-read what you wrote and you can decide.

I am not sure how you determine who is less or smarter than you, you must know your level of intelligence very well, I wish I knew mine, I must be one of those who is less smart than you.
