It appears Toyota supports the overthrow of democracy in America.

Cash to repukes for insurrectionist leanings seems like a bit overboard. Well I’ve got news for Toyota….I’ll be buying a new car in two years and you shitbags won’t be on my list of choices.

Sadly, I just leased one, after my/Dad's old ('93) one couldn't be reliably repaired.

8. Who do you think built all the vehicles America used to kill people during WWII? A genie?

And make no mistake, America killed a lot of people. Many for no purpose or gain.

Those companies still walk among us every bit as much as Toyota, Volkswagen, etc.

15. To the extent that any company is fighting for/against, instead of just making/selling stuff...

Yes. In that framing, then those companies did that too.

Amongst the 17.5 million tons of material valued at $11B ($130B now) that went to the Soviets under lend-lease, American companies made 400,000 jeeps and trucks, which ultimately comprised 1/3 of the Red Army's trucks (60% of the nation's draft animals were lost in the initial German invasion, so logistics would have been even more difficult on the European war's largest and deadliest front without this material). The Soviets operated an undemocratic system of government and imposed that system on a vast swath of central Europe. Stalin, Khrushchev, Zhukov are all on the record saying lend-lease was critical in the Soviets winning. That is what American vehicle manufacturers "fought" for, in part.

Never mind the 3X as much material that went to the British Empire under lend-lease, whose war aims included the retention of said empire, a governance structure which was fundamentally undemocratic. American manufacturers "fought" for that too.

that out loud afterwards. The losers usually don't, either because they are dead, they changed their mind, or they learned to keep quiet.

Toyota has taken tons of negative PR for $55K worth of donations. It’s worth it to them because that $55K buys them legislation which makes them millions upon millions. It how the system is setup.

If politicians recommended hanging a Vice President? Would that do it? What?

If you read the Bloomberg article Toyota also gave to two republicans that voted to impeach Trump as well as Democrats. We need more facts before we start condemning Toyota.

This isn't really going to change things. Not like I'm going to sell my car because of some political outrage of the day. Oh Twitter, you wily scamp!

My plan is to get a new car in 2023. I've been thinking of a Tesla. It's on the pricier end. However, with the pandemic and lack of activities, meals out, vacation, etc., I've saved quite a bit of money over the past 18 months. Still feels like quite a chunk, though. But gas savings would be a thing.

Meh. I have two years to debate all this.
