JDCA is proud to endorse Shontel Brown in the OH-11 primary because she shares our Jewish and Democratic values on a wide range of issues, including access to affordable, quality health care, ensuring jobs that pay fair wages, supporting public education, taking action to end gun violence, protecting our democracy, and ensuring equity and justice for all, Halie Soifer, JDCAs CEO, said in a statement to JI.
Since announcing her bid in December, Brown has emerged as the pro-Israel favorite in the race, which is scheduled for August 3. Early in-person voting begins on July 7.
In recent months, Brown has notched endorsements from Democratic Majority for Israel as well as Pro-Israel America, and earlier this week, four pro-Israel House Democrats including Reps. Josh Gottheimer (D-NJ), Ted Deutch (D-FL), David Trone (D-MD) and Brad Schneider (D-IL) announced their support for the congressional hopeful.
Brown is widely viewed as a leading candidate in the Cleveland-area race to succeed former Rep. Marcia Fudge (D-OH), who vacated the seat in March for a cabinet position as housing and urban development secretary in the Biden administration

(92,329 posts)give us trump by encouraging people either not to vote for the Democratic nominee, or vote third party, and it did make a difference in 2016.
In every critical swing state, Hillary lost by less than 1%, and in those states Jill Stein got 1% of the vote.
As for whether Brown is transphobic, I have no idea, but here were her comments on her misgendering statements:

(18,303 posts)There is a candidate who apologized for a very hurtful mistake and then promised to "lead by learning".
I was fortunate to learn more about the struggles of the LGBTQIA+ community from my friend before their passing and was able to acknowledge and use my privilege to support many of the unaddressed issues.
Out of respect for my friend I did not share their name as I discussed their tragic passing, but I did refer to them as he.
To be clear, my friend didnt always present themself as a woman, but when doing so I would refer to my friend as she. When my friend presented as a man, I would address them as he. As I mentioned in the forum, I knew them since we were children and while they spent most of their life identifying as a man, I have always been respectful to refer to them how they wanted to be referred to.
Like everyone, I make mistakes I am still learning, and sometimes I trip up. I am working every day to be better and I sincerely apologize to everyone in the trans community for my mistake. I will always stand with the trans community who are under attack here in Ohio from a Republican Party that is working tirelessly every day to strip their basic human rights.
snip=================================================================================
I am also committed to respecting any and every persons preferred pronouns and I will continue to lead by learning and do the work as an ally and advocate for the LGBTQIA+ and other underrepresented communities.

(42,366 posts)but her one, mistaken comment is "still disqualifying" to you?
But voting for Jill Stein in 2016 and referring to voting for Joe Biden in 2020 as eating a bowl of sh!t is A-OK?

...was an abject failure, I would say THAT is what is disqualifying for a DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE in our DEMOCRATIC PARTY.

(68,632 posts)Ohio is not super liberal ...not even Cleveland so I doubt Nina Turner will win the nomination. She has already said some questionable things...as have her people...the People's Party. She is not a Democrat. Nina gets my vote only if she is in the general and I hope to God she is not. I worry she is the one person who could lose this seat. I live in Cleveland by the way.

(12,426 posts)So, I have the same opinion but focus my energies on positives of Shontel Brown...I share this because there are those here that alert on such an issue they disagree with/candidate in favor of this case, Nina......so it has some level of irritation towards posters like myself who did not support Nina.

(68,632 posts)misgendering. Nina Turner said Trump was better than Hillary Clinton and actively campaigned against Hillary. And Nina called Joe Biden a half of bowl of shit. Nothing could make me vote for her in a primary...a general well what choice would I have? So of course she gets my vote. But this is Ohio, I still think Shontel will win the primary.

It's as if Killer Mike seems to think that "Clyborn" is a corrupt political boss who sics the police on people who disrespect him. What's up with that?

(67,782 posts)On Tuesday, Mr. Clyburn, the No. 3 House Democrat, took aim at one of Mr. Sanderss most outspoken acolytes, Nina Turner, a hero to the left who is surging in her campaign in Ohio to claim the Cleveland-based congressional seat vacated by the housing secretary, Marcia L. Fudge.
In a rare intervention into a party primary, Mr. Clyburn, a veteran lawmaker and the highest-ranking Black member of Congress, endorsed Shontel Brown, Ms. Turners leading opponent.
He said his decision to back Ms. Brown, the chairwoman of the Cuyahoga County Democratic Party, was not about Mr. Sanders, or even Ms. Turner, who remains the favorite before the contest on Aug. 3 in the heavily Democratic district. But he took a swipe at what he called the sloganeering of the partys left flank, which has risen to power with calls for Medicare for all, and to abolish ICE and defund the police.
I wonder if this was prompted by Killer Mike calling James Clyburn "incredibly stupid" this weekend and Nina Turner responding, "You better talk about it." as she nodded approvingly.
I LOVE Shontel Brown's comment on this:
