Lawyer Michael Avenatti sentenced to 2.5 years

Michael Avenatti, the brash attorney who became a leading foe of then-President Donald Trump, was sentenced Thursday to 30 months in prison for a brazen botched scheme to extort athletic apparel giant Nike out of up to $25 million.

The attorney became a leading foe of then-President Donald Trump and Trump’s then-lawyer Michael Cohen while representing Stormy Daniels, whom Avenatti is separately charged with swindling.

Avenatti briefly flirted with seeking the Democratic nomination for president at the height of his fame.

None seem to be in prison and most are onto their next grift far worse than anything that Avenatti did...ONCE! That means you too Mike Pence!

We need a wholesale cleanup of all the criminals in politics. I'm okay with Guantanamo remaining open to house them too.

Now he faces trial in California for the much more serious crimes he committed against his own "clients" from whom he stole money.

Avenatti's grifting was actually pretty spectacular, and he did it a lot more than once.

not all do. Someone here just seemed to endorse keeping lawless prisons offshore where we supposedly don't have to "worry" about those tiresome inalienable rights. Lock 'em up!

I do hope the reference to Guantanamo was only in jest. Avenatti and all other criminals (including GOPers), if duly convicted, deserve to go to prison, but only in accordance with the law and the sentencing guidelines.

But millions don't examine before they elect people, promoted by professional election machines, who echo back them what they enjoy hearing. Like Avenotti did not. But it took amazingly little to produce, "I love him! He should run for president!"

Our democracy has done amazingly well considering. Most of the time. Its founding fathers weren't fools and of course had big doubts we'd get this far.

Of course, he's still looking at two more trials - one for stealing $300,000 from Stormy Daniels and another for screwing over clients and other fraud in bankruptcy proceedings. This narcissistic dirtbag even wanted to run for president and was even something of a hero on DU. Some of us got dragged for pointing out that he was just a sleazy publicity whore, but he turned out to be exactly that and worse.

I liked how he attacked trump and he effectively brought the Stormy Daniels affair into public eye.
But none of that gets him off the hook for the shit he's pulled. I quit being a fan when the Nike case became known.
Seems like justice is hard to avoid unless you're a well connected republican.

who couldn't get enough of him for quite awhile. Ari Melber (who should have known better) and Lawrence O'Donnell (who also should have known better) interviewed him repeatedly and with relish. The enemy of your enemy might be your friend, but he might also be a grifting dirtbag who was just riding along on the prevailing anti-Trump winds.
