(115,746 posts)I keep getting texts from Nina Turner's campaign asking for my money, which she won't get a nickel of, and I don't know how to make them stop.

(8,301 posts)Not sure what it'll matter if a Democrat beats another Democrat in this primary. Voting Rights are for more important.

(145,340 posts)One of the candidates in question campaigned for and voted for Jill Stein. The same candidate also tried to help re-elect TFG by stating that voting for Joe Biden is like eating a bowl of shit.
I agree with Rep. James Clyburns choice

(8,301 posts)any indication that they will not caucus with the Democrats if they win? If not, then all candidates in this Democratic primary are Democrats, and Clyburn is using his time away from saving democracy over a race in which the party in question is already decided.

(8,301 posts)Sounds like the answer is a resounding "no." In that case, we don't seem to need to be worrying about this seat going into the other party's hands. Therefore, the time would be best spent getting voting rights passed, and not fighting each other in a non election year.

(5,008 posts)not caucus with democrats. She is not a loyal democrat. She has said many negative things about the leaders of our party.

(8,301 posts)When she was a state senator, did she caucus with another party? Has she said she will not caucus with the Democrats if nominated as a Democrat?

(25,544 posts)It's 14.92.
Joe Biden's is 12.56, Barack Obama's 7.56, Hillary Clinton's 7.89, Bernie Sanders' 6.17. Yet Biden, Obama, Hillary have been regularly called centrist/moderate/corporate Democrats/neoliberals/Republican lite/corrupt/not progressive, etc. Why Turner wouldn't vote for Clinton and called Biden half a bowl of shit.

(8,301 posts)Yet still caucuses with the Democrats and votes with them 99% of the time. Looks like this race is pretty clear, and we should probably worry about solving real problems like saving democracy instead of fighting each other.

(145,340 posts)I am NOT a fan of the Just Us Democrats. This group is out to hurt the party by remaking the party. I fear the Nina will vote against bills sponsored ny the Biden administration due to her anger with the Biden administration

(145,340 posts)This is a primary contest in a gerrymandered/packed district that is not competitive in the general election. The Just Us Democrats keep pushing purity tests in their primary challenges (I am on the Just Us Democrat email list). I do not like the purity tests advocated by the Just Us Democrats and like to have a more mainstream member of the party holding this seat.
Nina both campaigned for and voted for Jill Stein. Nina has made some statements that are very objectionable but were also designed to help re-elect TFG. Nina also tried to organized a third party that was designed to hurt Democratic candidates. These are not purity tests but issues going to whether Nina would actually be a good officeholder who would try to help the party if she was elected
The choice is between having a real Democrat who will actually be part of the party and work with Joe Biden vs. having a Just Us Democrat type who will try to hurt the party. I am not a fan of the Just Us Democrats and would prefer a real Democrat. If this seat was competitive, I would still prefer Shontel Brown vs. Nina Turner in that Nina has a ton of baggage that would be used to depressed the turnout of real Democrats.

(8,301 posts)Everybody here has a different idea of what a "real democrat" is, but at the end of the day unless there is a reason to think that they will caucus with another party, I would limit the amount of energy I put into a candidate, generally speaking.

(145,340 posts)I have trouble with Just Us Democrats and people who campaigned for and voted for Jill Stein and who formed a third party designed to hurt the Democratic Party. Here I trust real Democrats like Majority Whip Clyburn, Hillary Clinton, the Jewish Democratic PAC and the CBC.
You can support someone who worked to first elect and then re-elect TFG I like candidates who are loyal members of the party

(8,301 posts)Until I see evidence that any of the democrats running is likely to switch parties, i see this whole fight as an inability to get over old grudges over mean statements, instead of focus on saving democracy and prioritizing America.

(145,340 posts)Turner has such a long history that it is clear that she would not be a good member of the Democratic Party.
ColinC
(8,301 posts)I'm not talking about being a good member (which is not the most important issue here).I'm talking about this seat affecting our majority and focusing on people that effect issues like voting rights. Clyburn is fighting the good fight on voting rights, but I don't think it is a great distraction to focus on a primary race in a non election year instead of to keep pushing for voting rights.

(145,340 posts)Nina campaigned for Jill Stein which is something a real Democrat would not do
