8. The people who aren't taking the vaccines won't wear masks as well.

Nor will they social distance. Masks are only effective if everyone is wearing the correct one in the correct manner. Those little blue masks are not effective in a crowded setting like a grocery story where most people are not wearing a mask.

5. This is scary as hell - especially since states that took precautions are "opening up" now

I've been consulting this map - updated daily - which gives vaccination rates in both states and counties. My NE New York county is currently at 64% which I didn't think was good - until I looked at the rates in other New York counties, let alone states! And the vaccine is available everywhere here, pharmacies, pharmacies in groceries, Walmart and a large state run vaccination site in the old Sears store at the local mall - most of them taking walk-ins. And the one at the mall has huge neon signs with arrows out on the street inviting everyone in! What does it take??

7. Hi friend - what does it take indeed?

I wake each day, read the headlines, read DU, and wonder how half of our country has so totally lost its mind. Frightening! COVID, Climate Change, you name it - these are troubling times. Good time to hike with our dogs and grow tomatoes!

By taking strict precautions - mandated mask wearing everywhere, mandating distancing in all stores/businesses, mandated quarantining for non residents, restricted travel for residents, not to mention that few places opened as usual last summer during tourist season - the governor got the initial outbreak under control.

But now it's "tourist season" again - just in time for the Delta variant - and everything that was closed last summer is "open!" with a vengeance! I drove through Lake George Village last week and the tourists are back - packing the sidewalks in their quest for tee shirts and pizza! And not a mask in sight! And on just that trip I saw license plates from Florida, South Carolina and Georgia - and spotted one from North Carolina while running errands today. Like Rachel Maddow said tonight, it's not like the outbreaks remain contained - people and Covid travel!

A few less Trumpers I guess. Really, I can’t fathom those who have lost a family member to Covid still supporting trump, but they live in an alternate reality with alternate “facts”.

12. I live in Ontario, CA - oh - CA means Canada here, not California . . .

.

I added the caveat, cuz yes, there IS a city named Ontario in California, near LA https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario,_California

anyhoo - our Province has had over TWICE the deaths than the whole of China . . .

Maybe we democracies have too much "freedom"? -

I'm 70, newly fully vaccinated (Pfizer x2), but have no intention of ignoring our Heath Unit's advice to continue with the protocols like masks and distancing.

I see most in my area NOT observing these cautions, and avoid them like the plague - yeah, I know - it sorta is tho . . .

Our fourth wave is gonna be horrific . . .
