The books by Wolf, Bender, Rucker etc. They all read like a true life american horror story with Trump as a some uncontrollable evil spirit.
The truly frightening thing is that 74 million Americans willfully voted for this demented malignant narcissist to be re-elected President and how close he came to "winning" a second term.
Maybe instead of voter ID we should have require people to pass a sanity test before they are allowed to vote (joking). But seriously no one in their right mind could read about how Trump acts behind the scenes and think he should hold any elected office ever again.

(766 posts)There's been dozens of books since 2016 that reveal how ignorant and dangerous Trump is. But the MAGA cult thinks it's all fake news. Or simply can't read anything longer than a Facebook headline.

(34,061 posts)obviously he shines for plenty of people
he gives them reasons and permission to hate
he models selfishness
they are impressed by his crass, rude behavior because they are crass & rude
they are fine with his lack of ethics and morals because they are also lacking in those departments
they admire the way he bullies people and gets away with it because they bully people and want to get away with it
he is their role model

Sadly, an asshole is what many people consider a strong man.

(11,477 posts)Tonight on dog walk, he is a very nice guy, retired here from bay area and from few things he said I thought he was a democrat though we never talked politics.
Boy was I wrong! Tonight we were talking about trains and how much better they are other areas of the world and I said I had hoped Joe since he loved trains would do more but Congress is in the way. As soon as I said Joe he completely went from this nice mellow guy to a ferocious man talking smack about Joe, how feeble he is, how he undid all the good Trump did.
I didn't want to get in a argument so I walked off. All I could think is Trumps cult is not only brainwashed but they are angry and convinced in his beliefs.
It was so disheartening as I really liked the guy. As soon as he went off on Joe and liked Trump it was like who are you? Ugh!

(766 posts)I wonder if it bothers Trumpers when they lose friends, alienate their neighbors and are shut out by relatives because they believe everything Trump and Fox News tells them to believe.

They will completely ignore such revelations.

(1,292 posts)is that they won't read about the reality of Trump because they think it's fake news and they'll instead focus on the right wing nonsense that gets pumped into their Facebook feeds.
The right has spent decades training their base to disregard fact checked reality.

(19,204 posts)to be themselves. He makes it alright ( as they see it) to be the racists they already are. He makes it alright to hate anyone who isn't like them. He makes it alright to hate the government, to hate "the squad", to hate Mexicans, to believe immigrants are taking their jobs.
Trump allows them to be the total pieces of filth they've been their entire lives. They once had to conceal these undesirable characteristics to get along in society, but not with Donald Trump as president. They were free to reach for their lowest moral and ethical characteristics, because that's what Donald Trump did. He's the leader of the hate and white grievance cult.
That's why Trump resonated with them, and that's why they still support him. They don't want to hide under their rocks anymore. They found kindred assholes throughout the country, and it was party time.
These people are not going to hide anymore, even if Trump disappears. They're not going to improve at all. They've spent their entire lives regressing to the basest possible pieces of shit, and they don't want to return to the way they were before. We're going to have to keep these hateful dullards under constant watch from here on out.

(19,204 posts)Gaddafi, Idi Amin etc. There's a formula these autocrats follow to enamor themselves to the public. First, the common enemy. Then, convincing everyone that only he can fix all of the problems.
I won't get into the entire list, but Trump followed every single step they've all followed throughout history.
Thankfully, in our democracy, enough people rang enough alarm bells to foil TFGs heinous plan. Without the media (who helped create him) and the internet, enough people (71 million) were "woke" enough to stop that madman in his tracks. For now.

(35,688 posts)I heard an interview with a researcher on npr. Propublica had something to do with this. What she (researcher) said is what you just said.
Ive done a search, gone to the Propublica site, and gone through the program schedule trying to find it but havent been able to. I wanted to post it here because I think its so important.
This is it, however. How you managed to discern this on your own is amazing!
What has always mystified me, though, is their anger. You see the rage as they attack the Capitol. They are acting out their rage on the US government.

(19,204 posts)of piecing things together. I'm sure someone at ProPublica did a far better job of putting the pieces together than myself, but thank you.
They feed off of Trump's faux range, of his claims of being cheated. I'm beginning to wonder if Trump truly believes those things in his adderall addled mind, though. The line between his old faux rage and this possibly actual rage may have blurred past the point of his recognition.
In any case, that's where they get it. They live vicariously through TFG, believing he's "one of them", when in reality he wouldn't go within 50 feet of them.

(42,572 posts)The supporter, Susan DeLemus, said during a focus group which aired on CNNs New Day on Thursday As far as the truth goes, weve got people in positions of power who I know for a fact are liars. Liars!
I watched the TV, DeLemus explained. President Obama comes on the TV and he lies to me. I know hes lying. He lies all the time. I dont believe any one of them, not one.
I believe Donald, DeLemus proclaimed. Im telling you, he says what Im thinking. Ive never been involved in politics. Never had an interest in any of it. Now suddenly he is resonating. He is resonating with the people and hes speaking our minds, our minds.
