Yes, the Kremlin wanted Trump for the spiraling chaos and erosion of American democracy.
But they also wanted the fact that they wanted Trump known because that knowledge is what would actually tear us apart.
See also: the last 4 years.

To be clear: this was sharp operational design wins either way
But it could have been entirely cut off if Trump had ever admitted what Russia did and done anything about it as president
Instead, he gave them all the power to manipulate the narrative, and on and on
Now every new document and leak just fans the flames.
Focus on now. What the Kremlin does now. In Afghanistan, in Africa, in Latin America, in Europe, online, here, everywhere.

(7,772 posts)1. Classic chess move
Putin is cunning, if nothing else.
Only weak link in the plan was if Trump behaved out of character.
Easy decision for a Slav on that one, Scorpion and Frog and all that.

if trump had been a little smarter he would have been reelected and we would be owned by Russia. Our republican politicians and their supporters and fox news all seem to hate the US and are completely willing to let Russia win.

Yes, we came way too close to disaster.
Can you imagine just the catastrophe of a 2nd term colliding with Delta.
