The single most revealing fact in the new Trump books

(CNN)There are all sorts of explosive new revelations in the three new books detailing the final months and days of Donald Trump's car-crash presidency. But the most revealing part of all three has nothing to do with their contents. It's that, for each book, the former President sat for extended interviews with the authors.

Trump spent two and a half hours talking to The Washington Post's Carol Leonnig and Philip Rucker for their "I Alone Can Fix It" book out next Tuesday. For his book "Frankly We Did Win This Election," Wall Street Journal reporter Michael Bender sat with Trump twice for a total of three hours. Trump even talked to Michael Wolff, who he threatened to sue to prevent the publication of a previous Wolff book detailing the inner working of his White House.

Wrote Wolff in his new book "Landslide" of Trump's decision to talk to him:

"Trump told his people that guy ― me ― gets big ratings, so let's see him. For Trump, the goal is almost entirely the media attention. Good, bad, indifferent, doesn't matter. I'm not the only author he has seen, but I would assume that I'm the most disliked author that he's seen. But that doesn't play into his conception of the world."

It's a very old tenet of marketing that was disproven long ago. But DFT still believes that idea.

want to interview him - no matter what they might end up writing. Wolff figured that out quickly, and so did Bob Woodward. Wolff is kind of a tabloid type, and he's not that great a writer (his most recent book desperately needed a good editing but he was probably in a hurry to get it published). But his last book sold a lot of copies, and that's all TFG really cares about.

he brags. If it criticizes him, he gets publicity from calling it rigged interviews and fake reporting, which increases support from his paranoid base.

than people badmouthing him, is people not talking about him at all. Being ignored is like death to him. His addiction to attention is pathological. He is a really very sick man.

He even said so in "The Art of the Deal."

Not sure it will historically translate with his Presidency, though.

with media into a platform for his lies.

It’s legal encounters with sworn testimony and evidence that he avoids at all costs.

Even when he's no longer president all the news channels keep talking endlessly about him. They don't care that it feeds his ego and makes him happy, the media isn't on our side.

All these things he says that polite society thinks are terrible ... they just make 'his people' like him more. They're incapable of viewing anything he says or does in a bad light because they're cultists in part, but also because many are just as terrible of people as he is.

He's never hidden what an asshole and a fool he is, yet he was still elected POTUS, and VERY nearly re-elected.

He will draw as he sits in an Orange jump suit in a cell with Hannity, Tuckums, and Ingraham sitting outside the bars 24/7 getting marching orders. It will take a big hallway outside the cell for them, McCarthy, OAN and News Max to have a seat. PPV. 90 percent of those funds filling Murdocks bank account. By the way, anybody know how much taxes Murdock pays?

us have known forever that Trump is about himself and nothing else.

This isn't news, this is putting Trump right where he wants to be: front and center.

How about the media just ignore him and these authors instead.

that he might welcome being the subject of criminal proceedings.

I'd like very much to see that hypothesis tested.
