Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCould there be a much larger conspiracy than anyone has imagined?
Could it be a conspiracy involving the entire Republican Party?
After the attack upon our Capitol, two-thirds of them still voted to not certify the election for Joe Biden. That smells all the way to Denmark.
We see conspiracies with Trump and white supremacists, with Rudy and the Russians, with Roger Stone and Wikileaks, but we might have over-looked the biggest conspiracy of all?
Otherwise, why would Republican leaders like McConnell and McCarthy and Scalise, rally behind the criminal ex-President? Maybe they are all in on it?
Maybe this is a conspiracy of a national political Party?

(13,776 posts)Lindsay Graham, for example, is contemptible now, but in the Before Times he was a person who cared so much about Joe Biden that it brought him to tears. Hes always been a Republican but there must be something going on there.

(21,493 posts)Who collected the compromising information to force compliance in the Republican party? Was it Putin? Or was it someone within the US? Did one person (TFG) make a deal with Putin to get GOP support behind him? Or was there a group of people who searched for help in gaining power back for the GOP and found it in Putin and the Russian mob?

That is why they don't want a January 6, 2021 investigation...Like they used to say when the NSA thing was going on "if you don't have anything to hide why would you be worried?" Well, they have a lot to hide, they ARE worried.

It's about power, strangulating democracy for greed, thievery of public assets for private interests, and enslaving all. If you aren't at the top of anything, you are not important to them.

(2,845 posts)We all know how republicans just love tourists.
We have a minor league baseball team here in Asheville. Called the Tourists. Ive not seen them in years and refuse to watch local Sinclair propaganda news. I wonder if their uniforms are plastered with Trump emblems, Back the Blue flags, and confederate flags like the Capital tourists uniforms?

(2,845 posts)they forget who's supposed to lead the daily circle jerk of crazy.
I also believe that all the screaming about Dominion voting systems is/was just a distraction. It's ES&S voting tabulations that should be looked at.
I know assumption is usually the mother of all fuckups but, always assume whenever a republican is talking (or just breathing) they're lying, cheating and/or projecting (or they're thinking about lying, cheating and/or projecting).

(15,412 posts)they didn't like that. Then Trump showed them pricks can win the highest office.
They see that as their choice: be a prick like Trump or share power.
Authoritarianism starts by setting up an "us" vs "them" situation. It's harder to say horrid things about Jews and blacks but you can say that Dems eat babies. "Us" vs "them". Then you eat around the edges: start riots, say the election was stolen by the baby eaters, restrict voting, gerrymander the shit out of the country. They always wanted it this way, whether Russia has the goods on them or not. Trump just showed them if you want power, you can just take it. Just like all dictators do.
My question is, who can be the next Trump? DeSantis? Tucker? Junior? Is there another person out there that 74 million americans will consider a god? Is it possible that there is no other person who can do what Trump did?
Some of the reasons it worked for Trump is we were blindsided. When he came down the escalator I didn't think he's win the nomination let alone get elected. I'm hoping that the next one who tries will not bet all the free press that Trump got. I don't see Joe and Mika having Tucker calling ini every morning.

(1,606 posts)A corollary question is why isn't the national Democratic Party leadership and key members making the case (yet)?
I suspect it has all to do with timing, and the special committee on Jan. 6 is a key element in the strategy to get to a point where said conspiracy is more than speculation or allegation. I recall Biden referencing "timing"; this "drama" is in some part about that, too.
I'd prefer we unleash the "terrible swift sword," but prudence demands patience. Meanwhile I and many more seethe with unrest.

(5,499 posts)Republicans are win at any cost. Because their margin of victory is so thin, they can't afford to reject the crazies who may vote for them.
This is why country club elites glad hand poor white extremist Christians. They don't share anything in common except the person they vote for.
