Republicans Loved the Covid Vaccine Before They Hated It

I have seen a lot of cynical shit when it comes to the way that conservative politicians and media whores manipulate their fucking ignorant followers, from the Cadillac-driving welfare queens to drug hysteria to birtherism and so very much more. But I cannot wrap my head around the exploitation of fear and the selfish hyping of ideological division behind the right-wing campaign against the Covid vaccine. It's nonsensical on a health level and on a basic reality level, and for the majority of us who think that the only way to finally be out of the coronavirus despair is with herd immunity from the vaccine, it's unforgivable.

snip//

What I don't get is that the right, especially the evangelical right (which is wildly anti-vax), talks all the time about "miracles." Well, you know what? The Covid vaccines are a goddamn miracle, a scientific miracle. And I don't use that word lightly. When the vaccines were being developed, the researchers were hoping for a 50-60% effectiveness against Covid, which would still have been a game-changer. Instead, the Moderna and Pfizer double shot is over 90% effective, which shocked everyone. Yeah, it's a fucking miracle, and it's a tribute to the amazing things that humanity can do, across administrations, across parties. It's this generation's motherfucking moon shot and everyone involved should be gleeful. This one thing wasn't fucked up by the Trump administration. They should be out there braying like just-fucked teenagers about how incredible it is instead of hiding in the shadows from the irrational forces that they helped unleash. It's a miracle. You wanna bring the invisible sky wizard into it? Fine. Say that God inspired everyone who made it and gave them the abilities to do it. There. God make the vaccine. Fucking happy?

We know what this is about, and this gets back to that incredible cynicism I started with. Obviously, it's about the right denying the Biden administration a win with Covid herd immunity. Obviously, it's a craven ploy to keep the nutzoid evangelicals and the conspiracy fucked-heads on edge and pouring money into the coffers of whoever exploits them. And if a couple percent of them die, well, shit, that's just the price of lying about freedom.

If we had a sane ex-president, this could all be solved. He would be out there talking nonstop about his amazing triumph in getting the vaccine done so quickly and how everyone should get it instead of whining about the election. But Trump is not sane. And, truthfully, neither is half the nation anymore.

(Note: Yeah, I know. "Not all Republicans." But, you know, it ain't Democrats scaring people away from the vaccine.)

A guy in a boat sees the man stranded and says jump in and I'll save you! The man replied, "God will save me!" Several hours pass and another man in a canoe see the stranded man and says, "Jump in and I'll save you!" Again the man answers, "I have faith, God will save me." Finally, a helicopter flies overhead and by this time the waters getting really high, and again the man declines the help stating that God will save him. Several hours later he drowned, and now he's standing in front of the Almighty and he says, "Why didn't you save me?" and God replied, "I did! I sent you a helicopter, a boat, and a canoe!"

A lot of Talibevagelicals are going to have similar scenes with the Lord, who will say, "But I sent you a vaccine!"

But their Orange Jesus, who got his vaccine on the way out the door, cannot be seen as inept, a failure, or a screw up. So they are willing to sacrifice themselves, their families, and their neighbors so Joe Biden will not get a "win" against the virus. Boggles the mind. 99% in LA hospitalizations and deaths for Covid are unvaccinated. This fall is going to be wicked. They are thinning their own herd.

but is too stupid to do it because the resulting economic benefits help Biden.

Conservatives are deliberately continuing the pandemic to "own the libs" and brag about Biden missing his vaccination goal. It looks like they're owning themselves as most libs are vaccinated and living well.

Trump, all through his presidency, took credit for ANYTHING that happened, even if he had only minor (or in most cases, NO) involvement. He was out there crowing that Black unemployment was at its lowest point ever, due to him.

I can't fathom why he didn't want to claim the vaccine as his own creation, so he could crow about saving millions of lives. You know it would have been the best, most perfect, beautiful vaccine ever.

Of course, who can fathom what goes through Trump's orange head.

Rude is my favorite, irreverent blog when it comes to calling out the right.
He gets a bit nasty but that’s what makes it fun. The guy is a professor in Tennessee, the heart of Trump ignorance in this country.

They Loved the Covid Vaccine Before They Hated It.

One of them half jokingly suggested it was okay for me to stop wearing my mask now. I just laughed in her face and walked away, saying to her, tell that to all the people at a recent pool party in L.V. who are now infected with the delta variant. In other words, fuck off. I don't care what you think of my mask wearing. I wear it because it's the right thing to do until such time as I determine I no longer want to wear it around other people who obviously don't wear masks, not because it's safe to do so, but because they've been told by the television personalities they watch on RW looney-vision that Covid is a God damned hoax!!

p.s. one typo in there: God make the vaccine. s/b made.

to this entire fucked up mess this past Trump/Republican five years, is the statement:

What would Putin do....................Seriously. Every single day, every single decision, every single statement can be stated or answered with:

What would Putin do or want done................

I am told that the Russian People are laughing at how easily Putin has been able to direct Trump/Republicans on destroying the U.S. and Democracy.
They say that most impressive, Putin has done it without firing a single missile or rocket, or starting a single war............

How do the Republicans work out their vaccine woo into a political plus? The people most inclined to listen to them are their own voters. Some of them will surely get the virus, some of those will get very sick, some of those will die. But Republican strategists are apparently convinced that this will bolster their voter turnout in 2022 and 2024. While some voters will stick with their Republican overlords to the death, I think they're likely to lose voters who see that the Republicans are trying to kill them, their family members, and other loved ones.

This all seems like a grotesque exercise in political loyalty.
