Many of you took the time to respond and wish me well, so many that I feel I have to post an update.
The fever broke this weekend and I've been slowly improving since.
Still coughing but I'm not congested anymore.
Haven't been able to piece together more that 3 hours of sleep at a stretch yet. The coughing wakes me up, but that's still better (Much better) than just a few days ago.
I can lay down now - For a while laying down made it very hard to breathe. Yeah, that was pretty much the scariest part of the disease. Being able to lay on my bed is a relief.
Took my dog for a short walk this morning and I didn't get short of breath & I wasn't laboring to breathe like last week.
Since I'm no longer drunk on cough syrup I can telework for the next week. No more burning PTO
I want to thank you all for the support and well wishes.
Most of my posts get 100-200 views and one or two replies, so I was a little overwhelmed with the response.
Again. Thank you all.
Edited to add: Still no sense of smell , but I am super happy at the progress.

That sounds awful. And imagine, as a vaccinated person, yours is probably a milder case.

(19,204 posts)I must have missed your post about having the 'Rona. I've been fighting the consequences of my first Shingrix shot myself. That's not a kind vaccine, I'll tell you that.
I'm so glad you were vaxxed! Imagine how nasty that disease would be without it?
Get back to your old normal self quickly. Glad you're feeling better.

(5,933 posts)The first shingles vaccine kicked my ass for about three days. Second one? I forgot I had gotten it. With COVID I had reactions to both jabs, but nothing terribly severe.
SergeStorms
(19,204 posts)All I had with both Pfizer vaccine inoculations was a sore arm. The first two days after the first Shingrix shot were agony. I have arthritis and I'm usually pretty achy anyway, but I couldn't get out of the recliner (that's the only place I can sleep comfortably) for two days.
I'm glad you can get into bed now and get some real rest. This is one scary disease, and I'm treating it with the same respect I did at the peak of last year's infections. I just hate to be sick and feel lousy. Glad you're feeling a little better, and can get up and move around.
Mask up brother, and get totally well soon.

(13,431 posts)It is mystifying to me how this virus leaves some with a cold or no symptoms at all (to the point where they never know they have contracted it even without a vaccination) while others become very sick or hospitalized or even die from it.
There is so much more we have yet to learn about the human body.

(892 posts)This is wonderful news! I appreciate your update, TPMSgt.
My doctor decided not to give me the COVID test that I spoke about several days ago. I drove to her office and parked in a special area designated for those getting COVID testing. I called a special phone number they had and her nurse spoke to me at length about my symptoms. She said to just wait in my car and she would be calling my doctor (she was off but was on-call for her patients). I sat outside in my car for around 30 minutes waiting for the call. It was 96 degrees and very humid, so I was sweating profusely. I opended my car doors and sat on the passenger side where at least the sun wasnt beating down on me. Finally, I got a call and was told that they would come outside to get me for flu testing, not COVID testing.
I said, "No, thank you.....I will call you back if I get sicker.". It was a very frustrating experience.
But I do have an excellent doctor, and she called me to explain why she thought I should wait over the weekend to see how I felt on Monday. She told me that the COVID cases she has seen the past few weeks had all been unvaccinated, though she did say that I could have COVID with mild or no symptoms and also after having been vaccinated.
So, I havent had a test. I will post an update if I do end up getting one.
I am so relieved to hear that you are feeling better. I thought about you these past few days. Take care and keep us posted!

(44,974 posts)see are un-vaccinated. You can buy a rapid antigen test off the internet, or in the pharmacy, and test yourself at home. Or go to urgent care. I am vaccinated, I went and got tested (rapid antigen test) about 3 weeks ago, and nobody gave me any grief (negative).
Blue Dawn
(892 posts)I will check into that. Thank you!

(812 posts)Twice, as a matter of fact. It was as easy as can be. I think I filled out some paperwork the night before online and then I went to the drive-through where they had me swab my own nose. It was very easy and not that uncomfortable.
MyMission
(1,850 posts)Before testing for covid.
I know a few who had covid early last year and were given a flu test.
I hate to say this, but people who are vaccinated CAN get covid, and be hospitalized, and spread it no matter what they say. At first it was all hospital cases are unvaccinated, then 99%, then 98%, then 97% so more vaccinated people are ending up in the hospital.
My best friend is immunocompromised and currently on oxygen in the hospital in Florida with covid. She does home health and got it from an elderly vaccinated couple who's
Vaccinated son came to visit and took them out to eat! They're both in the hospital too.
She brought it home and gave it to her son and boyfriend. Son's fever broke today.
They both feel really ill.
So wear a mask. Insist on a test or buy one on line as mentioned if you suspect covid.
Blue Dawn
(892 posts)I have never stopped wearing masks. I wear them everywhere. I am so accustomed to wearing them whenever I go out that I wear them when I drive through my bank's ATM even though it really isn't necessary. It is now an ingrained habit.
My daughter and her boyfriend are both pharmacists. They recently moved to Jacksonville because he got an excellent job offer at one of their hospitals. They moved before Jacksonville became the COVID hotbed that it is today.
She FaceTimed me two nights ago and we discussed how bad it has gotten in all of their hospitals. She said that she and her SO had decided to be extra cautious, wear their masks, and not go out in public. He has Type 1 diabetes, so I know she is concerned about his picking up the virus where he works.
I think I will either go to a pharmacy to get a test or order a test that I can give myself.
I appreciate your advice. Thank you!

(26,659 posts)I signed up online for an appointment and didn't need a referral or to meet any criteria.
There was no one else there, and no waiting. Just went through the drive through, and swabbed myself. Got results back in a couple of hours (negative).
I was having mild symptoms of a scratchy throat and runny nose a few days after eating out with waitstaff who were excessively lax with masking.
I was glad to be able to avoid any hassle or gatekeeping.
Blue Dawn
(892 posts)I hadn't checked to see if my area CVS and Walgreens were offering COVID tests. I am going to call tomorrow.
I don't think I will go back to my doctor's office for the test. I think it will be easier to get it somewhere else.
I am glad you were negative. That's good news!....
Crunchy Frog
(26,659 posts)You should be able to go online and look for Covid testing near you, and and get all the info about which places have testing, what kinds of tests, and what the criteria and procedures are.
You should then be able to make an appointment online.
Hope you're able to get tested and get the peace of mind of knowing one way or the other.
Blue Dawn
(892 posts)That is why I wanted to be tested.....for peace of mind.
Thank you for your support and understanding. I am going to be looking for an appointment.

(34,111 posts)Daughter's boyfriend (living with us) coughing up a storm all night long for two nights now.
Just tested negative (Whew! We figured it was likely allergies + respiratory infection + tendency to turn everything into bronchitis/pneumonia. But - definitely infectious since my daughter started feeling bad yesterday. She's on her way to be tested now.)
Unfortunatey they are just rapid tests - we have to at least have a solid hope before we bring the wife of our foster son home for a week while she waits for him to recover from life-threatening surgery. No sense adding COVID on top of surgery that nearly killed him. (Just got the surgery report - alive and as good as can be hoped for).
All of us are vaccinated. So we'll cross our fingers and hope!
Glad to hear you are gettng better.

(14,923 posts)feeling so much better! I contracted covid from a workplace exposure back in December, before vaccination was available. Please just relax about your sense of smell...the vast majority recover this. It took me a couple of weeks to smell anything at all (even Vick's Vapo-rub!), and at 3 weeks it was spotty, with even some strong smells like a cut onion failing to register. But shortly after that it pretty much recovered completely. I think it will for you too! Please pace yourself and get all the extra rest you need. If you sleep on your back....don't!
