My partner is a higher up for a pharmacy system, and I just heard this one (he works from home and sometimes has calls on speaker).
A patient went into the pharmacy to pick up a prescription that apparently needed pharmacist consultation. The pharmacist asked if they had gotten the Covid vaccine, and if not, would they like to get one for free today? It's just something they do.
And then the fireworks began. The patient went ballistic on the pharmacist, demanding why she asked ("That's private!" ). Then lit into her for asking out loud. What if his neighbors were there and heard he was unvaccinated? What if anyone he knew had overheard? Apparently he took his mask off while ranting, and the waiting area cleared out fast (the pharmacy is within a hospital). Then security was called.
I didn't hear the ultimate resolution as I had a work call just then.
But sure. Let's behave that way in public in a hospital setting.
What if his neighbors overheard? Hell, I'd call that fair warning for them.

(21,230 posts)Covid shot that all to hell. We've got upwards of 25% of americans who aren't rational or reasonable, and no infrastructure other than police to handle it.
We're just screwn.

(23,031 posts)have emergency approval, not full approval. They say they will not be guinea pigs.
And so they would rather die of covid than risk the side effects of an emergency vaccine.
The word "emergency" and its meaning seems not to have registered with them.

I feel bad for the poor pharmacist who asked an innocent question. Oh my God, that a-hole deserves to have the cops called. Let it be shown on the 6 O'clock News. Then everyone will know!
But you know what, nobody cares except him. Everyone else is relatively normal and minding their own business. He belongs in a padded cell.

Next time, "this is my job, asking you if you need a shot to save your life." might be enough, but I've been there and you sometimes have to wait a while before they come up for air. Getting him bounced by security was likely the better option, allowing other people to come back so they could be helped.
They are TERRIFIED to stop out of orthodoxy and TERRIFIED of dying. Sadly, the former fear is often stronger.
At least he'll spend a nonproductive afternoon ranting on right wing sites about how pointy headed hospital libruls interfered with his freedumb. At least he'll be off the street and out of the bars.

(7,011 posts)I would have enjoyed watching this from the sidelines. Calling security is something I did a lot.
My very favorite was the night our security called the police on two adult sisters arguing in the hall outside their mother's room. I got to sit close by and listen. Each was telling the officer that she was more important to her mother's care. They were sort of respectable looking women. His parting words were, "Ladies, if I have to come back up here tonight, someone is going to jail". I wanted to say they might be women but certainly not ladies, and also I wish I could use that jail threat at times.

(714 posts)The noncommittal way to answer the question would be to say, "I do not want a free COVID vaccine today."
It's not like a clerk is going to hound you for an exact answer about your vaccinated status in the first place but if the clerk persisted with follow-up questions say, "I prefer to not tell you why I do not want a free COVID vaccine today."
It's like people's brains turned off when the pandemic broke out. People have had to handle questions they'd prefer to not answer since probably about two seconds after questions were first invented.
How it should be handled is not any different from "No, I do not want fries with that."

(3,229 posts)Put every last unvaccinated plague rat (excepting those VERY few who can't get vaxxed) on the cover of the newspapers.
'Out' every one of these sociopathic a-holes. In particular the jerks that go off.
Hopefully no food, drink, housing, any benefits whatsoever, any access to any transportation would be the BEGINNING of how to treat people who CHOOSE to not vaccinate. They should all be treated like drunk drivers, or someone walking along with a pistol firing it into buildings and crowds.

Sad to say, but if this thing kills Republicans disproportionately we may be seeing evolution in action.
Not the first time a political ideology acted against its long-term best raw power best interest, left or right,.,,,,

What a toll it must take to be filled with such hate, fear, and anger. To be unable to answer a simple question, one that could have bee quietly answered with a "not interested, thank you." It would be a stupid answer, but it would be an answer, without the rage.
Okay, so guns, bitterness, anger, hate, fear, and rage.
To the point where they are unable to participate in a civil society.
