(15,290 posts)It will only be a matter of a few more months before the Pfizer vaccine is fully approved by the FDA. Then the mandates will really start rolling out.

(8,986 posts)I wonder how they will enforce it. Those little cards would be so easy to counterfeit.

(2,548 posts)That can be a serious violation if caught. Of course the devil is in the details of determining counterfeiting but if found out the consequences should be serious and publicized.

(19,968 posts)I'm actually in Ireland (so no use for those in the US unfortunately), but we've had a National Covid Tracker app for the last year
and they have now added to that app a way of uploading your vaccination details onto it, like this

(19,968 posts)at 1,786 is the highest since February but only 3% of that is amongst over 65s and the ICU amount is manageable for now. Most of the cases are the 16-34 age group where the take up rate is slower than the fantastic rate of other groups. Registration for 12-15 age group starts next Thursday so I will register my son immediately.
Things have opened up a lot so things should be much easier for you, so enjoy !
Also bring your vaccination documentation or whatever you can...US documents are a gray area currently but they are working on it.

But I support this..indoor dining is optional, fitness centers require memberships, entertainment also is optional....

(25,515 posts)Public transit is a necessity, so is shopping...
There are people who for some reason or other can't have vaccines....
There are also mentally ill people who take public transportation....My hunch is there are mentally ill people who refuse vaccines...
It's kinda like the mask mandates.....
We could not mandate masks for voting in Texas....
My friend was mad that masks were not required to vote, until she lost her mask on her way to vote. It was election day during the runoff and it was around 6 PM and she didn't have time to buy another mask. She had to vote without her mask...

(1,382 posts)Im not sure what that will look like, but it better be easy to get for out of town visitors. I am fully vaccinated, but when I visit there in October, I want to be able to dine out with the least amount of hassle.
As of yesterday 57.3% of NYC residents where fully vaccinated, but its only 31% for African Americans, and 42% Hispanics, so wont this discriminate against minorities?

(8,205 posts)Which means it has a disproportionately beneficial effect on populations with low vaccination rates--especially if it pushes more people to get vaccinated.
I hadn't seen those statistics before. Disheartening. I wonder what the barrier is--access, language, working too many hours to afford time off, distrust of the vaccine. I doubt it's a high percentage QAnon-type refusal.

The U.S. Public Health Service Syphilis Study at Tuskegee
In 1932, the USPHS, working with the Tuskegee Institute, began a study to record the natural history of syphilis. It was originally called the Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male (now referred to as the USPHS Syphilis Study at Tuskegee). The study initially involved 600 Black men 399 with syphilis, 201 who did not have the disease. Participants informed consent was not collected. Researchers told the men they were being treated for bad blood, a local term used to describe several ailments, including syphilis, anemia, and fatigue. In exchange for taking part in the study, the men received free medical exams, free meals, and burial insurance.
...
Later in 1973, a class-action lawsuit was filed on behalf of the study participants and their families, resulting in a $10 million, out-of-court settlement in 1974.
On May 16, 1997, President Bill Clinton issued a formal Presidential Apology for the study.
Effete Snob
(8,387 posts)The crime wasn't in giving them treatment. It was in NOT giving them treatment.
Using that as an excuse to refuse treatment doesn't really make a whole lot of sense.
Also, it's not as if covid vaccination is some isolated study somewhere, or that there is some way for making sure only white people get the *real* vaccine.
