No, undocumented immigrants don't commit more crime. Research shows they commit a lot less.

http://www.ncpolicywatch.com/2021/08/03/no-undocumented-immigrants-dont-commit-more-crime-research-shows-they-commit-a-lot-less/

It’s an article of faith in some corners of politics and the media: All those undocumented immigrants crossing the southern border are making crime much worse in the United States.

But new research gives the lie to that assertion. And, some border officials say, continuing to promote it will only lead to another racist massacre like the one that occurred in El Paso two years ago today.

The notion that undocumented immigrants bring crime has a healthy pedigree.

Former President Donald Trump in 2015 said, “They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists.”

Referring to “the staggering number” of “perpetrators of state and federal crimes,” the governors of Texas and Arizona in June appealed to all other states to send their cops to the border to help. Their counterparts in Ohio, Iowa and Nebraska complied. Ohio’s state troopers, at least, are still in Texas.

One problem, though: Peer-reviewed, largely overlooked research published in December shows that undocumented immigrants in Texas likely aren’t part of a crime wave. In fact, they’re much less likely to be arrested for serious crimes than are people born in the United States. . . .

1. Undocumented aliens I've known try to escape notice.

They want to stay here and provide for their families.

Anecdotally, difficulties and resulting removal from the United States seems to come mostly from motor vehicle use. No license, insurance, etc. is what gets them noticed.

Potential deportation. After wat they’ve gone through to get here, why would anyone do that.

5. That's not why they came here. They can stay in their own countries to commit crime.

It doesn’t even make sense. Like a lot of things out of the right wing. As a pothead from way back I learned to never break the law when you’re breaking the law.

.

Back in the 80s my driver's licence got suspended for a year - I couldn't fathom how I'd make a living without it so I continued driving.

BUT - not only did I move to a different jurisdiction where the cops wouldn't know me, I painted my vehicle a different color.

More relevant - I never went more than 5 clicks over the limit - did a circle check every time I went out to make sure all my lights were working properly, and no exhaust leaks (noise).

Weird/scary thing happened about a week after I got my licence reinstated - Ran into a RIDE checkpoint and the year of fear hadn't subsided, and was almost shaking when I handed over my licence, ownership and insurance. I almost shit myself when he handed my documents back and realized I had given him the insurance cert. for a different vehicle.

Cop never noticed

It's nice to have hard data backing up common sense. It doesn't seem likely that people who desperately want to live here would show up just to go on a crime spree.

8. Undocumented Immigrants learned the lesson of Not Being Seen

Right wingers don’t seem to get it that the overwhelming majority of undocumented immigrants know that to do crimes and mischief that gets the attention of law enforcement gets them noticed and more subject to getting arrested and then deported.

This very simple and self-evident. explanation doesn’t seem to work it’s way through the thick skulls and impaired thinking capacity of so-called “Conservatives.”

Remember when right-wingers used to claim that they were the “adults in the room”? (I know, the idea seems preposterous) Well, such traits implied at least a certain amount of cognitive thinking.

With the clarification of committing less violent crime or property crime.

As others point out, they have every incentive to avoid notice by law enforcement
