Being so careful. Fully vaccinated and staying home for 18 months. Decided today to go to a nearby restaurant/bar for lunch after a troubling doctor visit. While eating our lunch, the only other patron, drunk as a skunk, came over to chat. Wouldn't take the hint to leave and had us virtually trapped in our seats. Wanted to tell us about the Right to Life Rally he'd flown to last weekend. Were in Florida! So now WE have to isolate and be afraid and nervous for the next week. This fool will go home and sleep it off and go merrily on his way. Life in the time of pandemic is so very frustrating! Damn!!!!! Thank you for permitting my rant.

(21,753 posts)Left hospital over advice of doctors, denying that he had Covid.
Came into work the next day carrying an oxygen tank. Not to work, but to complain about the dumbasses at the hospital trying to tell him he has Covid. Walked around the office place, buttonholing people in their offices and ranting.
Next day, he is back in the hospital, after his wife called an ambulance to his home, still insisting he doesn't have Covid.
How goddam stupid and irresponsible can one person be?

(26,579 posts)I'm wondering if this might be a good thing to report to a local health department. Anonymously of course. Let them know that your employer allowed someone with a Covid diagnosis, who was supposed to be in the hospital, come in and hang out while exposing multiple workers.
I think I would be looking for another job at this point, though I obviously don't know what your particular circumstances are.

(102,239 posts)I haven't in 18 months anyway... Not even during that brief period before Delta took over. I would eat outdoors at properly distanced tables, but the horrific heat waves we've had this summer and smoke/ozone from wildfires have pretty much ruled that out as well.
I hate that I now constantly look at others as nothing more than a disturbing potential for conflict/fight over masks, or distance, or any other common-sense measure to protect myself and others, but...

(82,849 posts)My canned answer to anyone complaining about the return to the days of precautions is to say, "Be sure you're mad at the right people - the ones who can't be bothered to get vaccinated or take even the simplest precautions." If their response is "Fuckin'-A" (or its equivalent), you know you're dealing with a responsible person. If the response is to scupper away as fast as their little legs will carry them, you know you're dealing with one of the knuckleheads who are holding the rest of us hostage.

(26,579 posts)I've only eaten out once, and that was outdoors with nobody else there except my family.
And this is in an area where there's currently very little transmission.
Hope you guys end up being okay.
