I know some will be on me like stink on shit because I think this is the right thing to do. Read on.

I have always had great respect for the Cuomos, particularly Mario. He would have been a great president or Supreme Court Justice. But, very suddenly, he pulled himself out of contention and consideration. No one seems to know the real answer why - just surmise and speculation. So I will speculate. Someone knew something bad enough that would "be a shame if people knew." Mario did what he did and stayed quiet about it. To this day I think the loser in all this was the country, denied of his intellect and heart.

Now to son Andrew. It follows that where there is smoke there is often fire. To be sure, right now, there are only allegations and accusations. There is controversy and only now a counter narrative. For my own part, I honestly have no idea what the truth is. I want him to be innocent. No matter - here, on August 6, 2021, is where we find ourselves. Talk of bipartisan impeachment. A credible defense starting to form. A criminal complaint sworn in Albany County.

Unrelated, or not, is the plight of Gavin Newsom. The recall is real and looking worse and worse for him. And therefore worse and worse for California and, really, for all of us.
Four
Republican governors are swinging meat cleavers to voting rights in populous/high electoral vote Florida and populous/high electoral vote Texas. This can easily get worse and more widespread. We really need to think of the current situation as an existential threat. No hyperbole intended. THIS.IS.SERIOUS.

New York and California have both had Republican governors and they have had them relatively recently. If they get them now, I think it could be GAME OVER. The four most populous and electoral vote rich states in the hands of TFG acolytes. You think that's not possible? Think again.

California makes me very nervous. I really don't know what to make of the last poll I saw, with Recall winning by 11%. If that doesn't scare you, read Number Seven.

Current polling shows an overwhelming percentage of New York voters unhappy with Cuomo, with a lot of them favoring impeachment. I really think the longer Cuomo hangs in against the obvious, the more it will hurt ANY Democrat's chances of beating whatever Right Winger gets the dark money funding to oppose him.
This threat can be averted, at least in New York, if Cuomo resigns - guilty or not. This is too dangerous and clearly too important, for us to let Democratic politics take precedence to WINNING. By way of historical object lessons, consider Bill Clinton. He hung in there. Al Gore and Hillary Clinton paid the price - AS DID THE COUNTRY.
Don't make assumptions about where I am coming from. I STILL like Bill Clinton and I STILL like the Cuomos. But sometimes ya just gotta do what ya gotta do.

(3,022 posts)nothing in recent history would suggest there is a Republican with any shame what so ever. Why does it matter? I'm sorry I jumped to the conclusion that you were suggesting we should do the same as them and be sanguine when our leaders break rules and violate the people who work for them. Now, I admit I have no idea what you were driving at.

(32,767 posts)... however I have learned to separate my warm feelings for the father from my cool regard for the son. Like you, I believe Andrew must resign, even though I can see this COULD BE a set-up from Day One. I'm not sure it is a setup, but it certainly benefits the Repukes of NY, in any case.
The longer this draws out, the more it hurts the Democrats. That's all I have to say.

(94,737 posts)1. There is nothing beyond your speculation that something was hanging over Mario Cuomos head when he was considering running for President. If you believe that (absent evidence) explain why it didnt get thrown out in his 1994 re-election campaign?
2. Given 1, theres no argument for 2.
3-6. New York has NOTHING to do with California. And even in Republicans won in CA and NY, there would be huge limits to their ability to accomplish radical policies because the Democrats have supermajorities in both legislative chambers.

(31,261 posts)We are the party that defend womens right to be free of workplace harassment. It is ok if a guy thinks a woman is hot for him and she is not, as long as he doesnt touch her and stop going after her when it should be clear that she is not interested. But a guy that has a pattern of abuse of power toward female subordinates should not get off free after doing such a thing.
