(26,158 posts)the big numbers being a mod way back when.
ProfessorGAC
(66,955 posts)Another DUer closing in on 20 years told me she's racked up huge numbers volunteering as a host & on MIRT.
So, I think those regular volunteers are still piling up numbers.
I'm closing in on 50,000. It would take me 40 years to hit 6 figures. Maybe less, as I lost more now that I'm retired.

(26,158 posts)Congratulations on your milestone, ProfessorGAC. I always think of Bill the Cat, somehow, when I see the GAC.

(23,967 posts)Lord knows WHAT kind of gibberish I'll be spouting by then!
ProfessorGAC
(66,955 posts)Given my family history, I'm not holding out hope of hitting 100k.
I'd be pushing 85, and one person, in the last three generations of both sides of the family made it to 85.
Maybe that means I won't quite be at the gibberish point when I can't post anymore!

(31,432 posts)Ive always wondered what the GAC stands for. Can you elaborate (no problem if you cant)?
ProfessorGAC
(66,955 posts)They're my initials.
In the early days of the internet, I was teaching advanced organic mechanism theory in a Chicago university graduate program. 600 level class.
They gave everyone an AOL account and the handle was "ProfessorXYZ" at AOL.
When I started traveling even more I quit doing it, but I got used to it as a handle. I didn't want to pay for AOL, so I used the same tag at hotmail.
Then on chat rooms & forums I kept using it.
So, I'm "GAC". My wife even once bought me monogrammed socks for Christmas with that on it!
I always wrote that on memos and sign offs at work, because everyone knew who " GAC" was.
The guys in the band even used to call me GAC. That's how often I used it.
