The rest were on the list as you say.
Russia, the US, and others have dismally failed in Afghanistan. Now it is China's turn. They won't be bombing the country back to the Stone Age, China's relatively new military industrial complex has not yet figured out how to scam the government for $trillions. Instead China will throw a great deal of money and specific deals and initiatives, and a lot of them, at the Taliban. But China will want a return on their investment. The eyes of the world are watching to see how this unfolds.

China wants/needs:
1. The $trillion rare earth minerals in Afghanistan mountains.
2. A secure Afghanistan for their Belt and Road initiative.
3. Regional stability and subservience. China cannot hope to be a superpower without it.
The Taliban wants status, power and wealth in return.
Neither China nor the Taliban will get involved in the other's internal affairs.
This will be solely a transactional relationship.

Heard some Brits on Sky News who are pissed about the pullout. They feel the situation there was fairly stable with little conflict and now it's going to be a humanitarian disaster.
