(8,685 posts)was because of the US invaded Afghanistan.
Mr.Bill
(24,317 posts)whether he went to Pakistan or not. W and Cheney wanted war so lots of money could be made. Their ilk have been profiting from war since WWII. That's really all there is to it.

(8,685 posts)he would not have planned and trained another batch of terrorists in Afghanistan.
Mr.Bill
(24,317 posts)isn't doing exactly that.

(24,317 posts)he or anyone else did anything of that magnitude. The point is we rely on intelligence to keep these things from happening, not invading and occupying entire countries for decades.

(8,685 posts)I suspect our intelligence inside Afghanistan was limited. Furthermore this situation required immediate action as Bin laden might have been planning another attack post 9/11.
Mr.Bill
(24,317 posts)dozens of countries planning one also. Should we invade all of them? The invasion madness has to stop.

(32,069 posts)That was a media creation. This is a picture of the remains of his headquarters I took in 2002 outside of Kandahar. bin Laden and crew were a very sophisticated organization with financial contacts around the world. They never lived in caves.

(32,069 posts)bin Laden knew the U.S. was after him so he certainly was not going to stay in Afghanistan. In fact he may have gone to Pakistan before 9/11. That information is not known or clear to this day. But regardless the Tora Bora area was a short transition area for bin Laden and his leadership as they transitioned to Pakistan. They did not operate from there. Their stronghold during their many years in Afghanistan was Kandahar.

(32,734 posts)I still don't get why we call Pakistan an ally - but I guess it's beside the point.
Our guys did what had to be done. Our military is still the best in the world, in so many ways. The only problem was the delay in finding Bin Laden. Once he was found, he was a "dead man."
