Barrack Obama's birthday seems to be making the impact some worried it would.

I saw it mentioned in televised media for the 1st time along with an article my Maureen Dowd, the article full of snark and one liners while Mika Brzezinski scolded the Obama as hard, possibly more than she the Sturgis attendees.

There was little to no mention of the cut back or the other precautions taken and little about the current lack of cases beyond a small raise in cases that could be unconnected. Ms. Brzezinski referred to it as a 'tough day for Dems', I guess including the Afghan situation which seems to have stirred her ire against Joe Biden. She digging into him pretty good as well.

Dowd's article "Meet Barrack Antoinette" in The New York Times: https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/14/opinion/barack-obama-birthday.html

WASHINGTON — Jay Gatsby gave big, lavish, new-money parties at his sprawling mansion on the water because he wanted to seem cool. He wanted Daisy to notice him.

Barack Obama gave a big, lavish, new-money party at his sprawling mansion on the water because he wanted to seem cool. Being cool is important to him.

One difference is that Gatsby opened his house to the uninvited. Obama closed his house to many of the invited after getting flak for hosting “a celebrity mosh pit,” as Stephen Colbert called it, while officials were telling people to mask back up.

It’s hard to stop thinking about the over-the-top fete the former president held at his Martha’s Vineyard manse for his 60th birthday. It is such a perfect taxonomy of the Obama arc.

As president, he didn’t try hard enough on things we needed. He was a diffident debutante with a distaste for politics. Post-presidency, he is trying too hard on things we don’t need. The culture is already swimming in Netflix deals, celebrity worship, ostentatious displays of wealth, not to mention podcasts. Did the world really need “Renegades,” his duet with Bruce Springsteen?

He has a beautiful estate on the ocean to hold his party outdoors. The guest list of other rich and famous individuals contained people who were vaccinated and who would be tested before attending the event. The Obama party should be held up as an example of what life can be if you get vaccinated to protect yourself and those around you from Covid. Somehow I think Maureen Dowd would have attended if invited. Now there is an increase in Covid cases on Martha's Vineyard and Obama is being blamed. Well . . . hot flash . . . there are outbreaks all over New England. Tourists like us. I've taken to looking at license plates before I enter businesses. I actually waited for a man with Texas plates to leave the business I was planning to go into. Blame where blame lies and that's with Trump and his historic year+ of killing Americans.

Even though she stabbed Hillary. But, yeah, the people disinvited were angry. Most Democrats were put off by that party for many reasons: flaunting wealth and celebrity, being exclusive, Covid. But, Obama is a former president, just like Bill Clinton, and TFG. It has nothing to do with Biden any more than some Bill Clinton revelation does. It’s not “a bad day for Democrats.”

Isn't she the one who ate too many edibles and freaked out in her hotel room and then wrote an article about it? She obviously has no shame, and now she's trashing Obama. Her opinion isn't worth shit. At least shit can be used for fertilizer.

Apparently Obama lives in MoDo's head just like he lives in Trump's head. It's hard to imagine that this level of jealousy and resentment doesn't have at least something to do with racist beliefs, along the lines of "how dare he..."

A lot of people have lost a lot due to Covid. Some kids lost proms and graduation ceremonies and for some (who have a hard time w/ remote learning) a full year of school.

I get it, turning 60 is a big deal. But I think any gathering over 20 people (20 vaccinated people) is a bad idea.

We cannot rail against the willfully unvaccinated, the war against mask mandates, and the carelessness of big events unless we--ALL OF US--are doing absolutely EVERYTHING we can do to mitigate the spread.

Other than trips to the grocery once a month, I have not been in a group of more than 10 people since this thing started.

And the longer people ignore mitigation efforts, the longer it will take for the world to get to a place where things can return to normalcy.

My family is supposed to have a gathering next month--a full 18 months since we were locked-down last March. And it's starting to look like it's not safe to do so. And we're the ones who have been following guidelines the entire time.

Nobody is worried that Obama would be chastised for being too loved Envy is a helluva drug. Also, who gives a crap what Dowd thinks? If this was meant to have an impact, it failed.

As president, he didn’t try hard enough on things we needed. He was a diffident debutante with a distaste for politics. Post-presidency, he is trying too hard on things we don’t need

Fck you! He did not do enough for you, why? Because he didn't incite an insurrection.

I was on the "don't think it is a good idea", mainly because it sends a bad message to the average person who doesn't read trends and statistics, but who follows celebrity news. Having a birthday bash is completely President Obama's prerogative, but I thought that it would not be a good example to people who desperately want to get back to "life as normal" but who can't go to a private island or have space on Martha's Vineyard.

I cannot summon the energy and effort to give one squirt of piss about what either Brzezinski or Dowd have to say. Show me something from someone I might respect even a tiny bit, then I might get worried. Colbert calling it a celebrity mosh pit, carries more weight than anything Morning Joe or Dowd can muster in me.
