I had no idea that Kabul had all of these attractions. I always thought it was just a backward, traditional country with goats and chickens running around in the streets and people in robes riding around on camel taxis. Had no idea they had modern amenities. What a difference has been made there in 20 years. We might be gone soon, but I think our influence will be felt for many years to come.

It's a big city, a lot larger than the one I live in, but I imagine that it's still rather primitive compared to Seattle because it's in Afghanistan, which is rather third-world. I know most countries have at least one city that's contemporary, even the more rural countries.

It’s of three women walking around in miniskirts in Kabul in 1972. The background shows enough for a person to surmise there is a modern city.

Just Google up Kabul 1972 and hit the image tab.

than they are now. Well, during the American occupation they've been able to be more in tune with the times. But I don't think the fundamentalists were in control of the country in 1972 like they have been in more recent times. The Taliban and other groups like them are going to try to drag the country back into the 8th century. The only things modern they'll allow are weaponry, most likely.

they're going to have their hands full trying to square that circle.

the mullahs in iran have no problems doing that, but they've got more oil than afghanistan.
