Terrible to be negotiating with the Taliban! How bad Biden and his administration are for dancing with the devil, negotiating with terrorists, and doing the thing that Donald Trump did a year ago! The thing she was fully aware of at the time it was done! What an awful business.

How stupid do you have to be to tweet something like this? Twitter pounced, sending some timely reminders of exactly who negotiated what with the Taliban, and who cheered from the sidelines at the time.

Republicans do not get elected on policy. Not since Reagan in the 80's, have they been elected because of tangible plans they offer people to improve their lives. Even Reagan didn't run on actual policy. He ran on "the government is the problem" and as an antithesis to Carter's warning that we needed to sober up, face our problems, and chart a more responsible course.

Reagan was polished and had a "folksy" appeal. He was able to convince a lot of people that he wanted to make life better. Since then however, people have understood, at least on a rudimentary level, that Republican/Conservative policies don't actually bring any material benefit to them. They tend to hurt people that conservatives don't like, but they don't really help anyone but the rich.

Haley is a modern conservative, like Bush Jr. Modern conservatives understand the demographics and understand that they can't win on policy. Their goal is to rile up their smaller, but very active base, then work within the system of voter suppression, and the electoral college to get to 270. She is well educated, and likely intelligent. She knows that the base of voters she has to mobilize is neither. She knows that she has the wealthy with her, as long as she can promise them that they will continue to get the lion's share of the wealth. She has to mobilize enough of the "dummies" to make it a close race so that the Republican "procedural" tactics can help them win.

There certainly are Republicans who are really stupid. Tommy Tuberville comes to mind. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Lauren Boebert, Kozar, Cawthorn, etc... are actually not intelligent. Haley belongs with the Ted Cruz's of the world. Intelligent, but mendacious and craven. The question is, "What is worse?" To be stupid and loud, or to be intelligent and have no shame in acting stupid?
