democrats at risk

I was talking to my brother yesterday. hes a democratic leaning independent. thinks trump was the biggest disaster every.

hes fed up with the democrats and doesnt see a reason to vote for them again.
his rationale?

the dems have been in power for 7 months. and have basically done squat. we all know that he trump family is a criminal enterprise but after 7 months has any of them face federal indictment? not one of them

the GOP is pushing voting restrictions and the dems have done nothing to stop it. in his words you can blame manchin et al all you want but the fact is the dems havent done anything to stop it.
the afghan pullout has been bungled
and with all these problem the senate rather than workign went on recess.

he blames the democratic leadership. . the top dems talk a good game but you are judged of the results. and there havent rally been much in the way of concrete results.

in his view why vote for dems or anyone for that matter if nothing is going to get done

One that Republicans rely upon, with good reason.

A huge segment of the American public seems quite ready to forgive Republicans, either by voting for them again, or not bothering to vote against them, when Republicans create enormous messes and Democrats can't fix it all immediately when they get one brief, impatiently observed moment to try to fix those messes.

Feel free to share this post with your brother, by the way.

thats not exactly the way to encourage them to support you.

its not that they are willing to forgive the GOP,it more that they dont see a reason to support the Dems. TFG was an easy target to vote against. people like abbott, desantis and the ilk arent the lightning rods he was. they know how to talk without throwing out one liners that piss off huge numbers. so rather than voting against an obvious evil they just stay home.

Such people are idiots nevertheless, whether telling them so helps or doesn't help. Compared to the wreckage caused by Trump and the Republicans, people should be delirious simply for the rate of damage to our country decreasing.

If a façade of patient sympathy worked, that's another mask I'd gladly wear. I haven't seen a great deal of Democratic support gained yet, however, by coddling idiots and "trying to understand their concerns".

So fuck 'em.

Your brother’s a fool. Democrats passed the biggest economic justice law since the Johnson administration. It cut child poverty in half among other things. That’s a huge accomplishment by itself. And a bill that will surpass that one will be passed in the months ahead that will be the biggest thing since the New Deal.

and its not just him that thinks like that. the lack of dem action is going to create an environment for the GOP to win big in 2022. and possible 2024.

LOL Talking points to make people not vote for Democrats:

Democrats have total power and haven't done anything, therefore they don't WANT to do anything. BOTH SIDES.

Democrats are ignoring voting restrictions, therefore they don't care. Why don't Democrats stop all the bad things Republicans do? Because they don't want to! BOTH SIDES.

Afghanistan BUNGLED, therefore BOTH SIDES.

Democrats are all on swanky vacations in the Bahamas and don't care about anything. BOTH SIDES.

Democratic leadership are old status quo establishment elites. Need new faces, new blood, inexperience.

BOTH SIDES BOTH SIDES BOTH SIDES DON'T VOTE DON'T VOTE DON'T VOTE

This isn't fooling anyone.

cycle after cycle.

Americans don't really do patience well, especially dems, who seem to think we can clean up decades of RW bullshit in a few short weeks/months. It is far easier to block shit from happening in gov't than to get things done.

Tue Aug 24, 2021, 10:48 AM

that there is no instant gratification in politics. Republicans vote for Republican in every election even if they don't get everything (or even most of) what they want enacted but they keep winning and have the power to at least enact some of their economic policies and frustrate Democratic efforts.
