Thursday only the location of the shot would ache if I touched it. So I didn't touch it again. Then finally felt some effects of it yesterday when I had that arthritis type stiffness and was tired throughout the day and evening. But I could still do all sorts of housework at a slow pace. Keep it moving.
Today I bounced back in attitude and energy. Generally opinionated and joking around. Same old me.

I want a booster since I am paranoid with all the new cases out there.

I worried about the fact that the Delta variant is so powerful. Too easy to catch. So I'm with you.

(46,166 posts)If you can get to a location that administers the vax you can take a look at the two short forms you fill out. On the second form you check off what condition applies to you that makes you eligible. There are many more than I realized.
I don't want you to be ill! But you might be surprised at how many things are on the list.
I also heard that Biden might seek to open booster shots for anyone wanting one as early as next month. So it won't be long.
I read drinking a lot of water helps too.

Thanks again for the water tip. I downed just about the whole tall cup of water. Gotta say - I feel better for it, lol!

It's worth a trip to one of the stores that are administering the vax to look at the two forms to see if you qualify.

Who is eligible for a third vaccine dose?
Those currently eligible for a third COVID-19 vaccine dose include certain individuals with weakened immune systems who meet the high-risk requirement, including those who:
Are receiving cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
Received a stem cell transplant within the last two years
Have moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (e.g., DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
Have an advanced or untreated HIV infection
Are taking medicine that may suppress immune response

(1,315 posts)Say you make a mistake filling out the form and, by accident of course, check the box that says you had cancer recently. Whats the downside? HIPAA laws mean the record cant be shared with anyone. So go ahead, get the shot. Plenty of vaccine is going to waste.

(46,166 posts)It was last in the list of conditions including diabetes and several others. The last item clustered about five conditions in the list. That's the one I circled.
In fact, after I turned it in and sat down to wait to be called I went back and asked to look at my form again to be sure I didn't make a mistake.

Having heart conditions such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathies, and possibly high blood pressure (hypertension) can make you more likely to get severely ill from COVID-19."
Scrolling down, their list also includes overweight and obesity, pregnancy, being a current or former smoker.
This next page at the CDC web site says this:
"People with moderately to severely compromised immune systems should receive an additional dose of mRNA COVID-19 vaccine after the initial 2 doses."

(44,974 posts)I got Moderna booster, and I had more of a side effect with third dose than with a second dose (which was more than a first dose). I am assuming that means each time my system is making more antibodies than the previous time.
So, if it works the same for you, you should clear your schedule.

I'm still trying to figure out when I should get my booster shot. The current recommendation is waiting eight months from the second dose, but since you mentioned hypertension as an ailment that could qualify me for a booster shot now, I'm going to see if I can get mine sooner than December.

It's on the honor system. They don't ask for proof.
eleny
(46,166 posts)Even if someone is taking a steroid med right now. Steroids suppress the immune system. So that qualifies the person. But if a person didn't realize that steroids have that effect they might not go get the booster when they actually qualify.

(46,166 posts)You fill out the form, attest that you're eligible and circle your condition on the form you fill out when you get there. I went to Walgreens.

(1,315 posts)I was in Montana recently and had to stop at a Walgreens to pick up some stuff. On a whim I took my Covid vaccination record to the pharmacy to see if I could get the third dose. The pharmacist took a look at my card, saw that my last shot was 8 months ago and gave me the booster.
Turns out so many people in MT are not getting vaccinated that they have vaccine going to waste. Instead of letting that happen, theyre giving booster shots to anyone who asks and remotely qualifies. The pharmacist was clearly disgusted.
eleny
(46,166 posts)She has MS in remission but didn't realize she was eligible.
She spoke with the person administering the vaccinations. They told her that they aren't permitted to question a customer's assertion of eligibility.
I don't think anyone should fib in order to get the booster. But with Delta being so virulent I can see why the rules aren't stringent about verification. And I can understand your pharmacist having the latitude to make the decision to give it to anyone remotely qualifying.
For instance diabetes is on the list of conditions. I'm pre diabetic and keep it under control without meds or daily testing. I'd say I remotely qualified by that condition, too.
Anything that stresses the immune system opens the door to getting the booster even if it's not quite been 8 months since the last vax. If a person happens to be taking a steroid med at the moment qualifies since steroids suppress the immune system.
I'm glad you could get the booster vax. Especially given where you live.

(44,974 posts)my eligibility. I have a condition that is on cdc list, but the pharmacy clerk kept questioning me. So it would appear different pharmacies have different rules.
eleny
(46,166 posts)Even when I went back asking to look at the forms I filled out for circling a qualifying condition, the pharmacy never even asked if they could help clarify anything.
She retrieved the form for me and I walked away with it to take my time to be sure I filled it out correctly. I think I was more worried about my declaration being correct. That last item on the second form had a cluster of conditions in it. I wanted to be sure I was accurate.

(44,974 posts)I wasn't given a paper form to fill out, instead I was questioned by a pharmacy technician (a young kid), who then went and consulted his supervisor, who confirmed I was qualified.

(46,166 posts)...hey responded that they aren't permitted to question customer declarations.
Btw, I was just discussing it with my husband again. He said he even wrote in a condition that wasn't on the form. Sounds like a talk with the staff could even cover all those things absent from the form that my Walgreens is using. I didn't study the form enough to note the origin of the form but am curious about it now.
I'm glad to hear that you're getting more immunity!

(58,785 posts)The OP's talking about a third shot of the original vaccine. Which of course "boosts" immunity, which is why it's approved for a subset of special-needs people.
But the real boosters are being developed to specifically do a better job of boosting the original vaccination and will also protect better against delta. It's hoped everyone who got vaccinated will go on to get the booster when available.

(58,785 posts)When the FDA and the CDC say a booster for all who've been vaccinated is not needed yet but approve a third dose of the original vaccines right now for a subgroup, they're talking about two different things.
The media are doing a disservice by using the one term to refer to two different current topics. Of course people are confused.
LisaL
(44,974 posts)which is still called a booster, should become available to everybody who had been vaccinated for 8 months, starting September 20th. So FDA and CDC no longer say the booster for all is not needed.
