Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand. Jesus Christ in Matthew 12:25
A nation divided against itself cannot stand. We are a divided nation.
Unless we can find a way to come together, I fear for our survival as a nation. I do not say this out of despair or any sort of revenge. I say it because I see it and I feel it. It is the truth that will set us free.
Right now, our best hope to survive this crisis is in the hands of Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. They must try very hard to persuade their fellow Republicans to not fear the truth. It will save them in the long run. If they continue to cling to the deception and the Big Lie, it will destroy them. Unfortunately, it will likely destroy the rest of the nation also.
We have to find a way to work with any Republicans that are willing to work with us to find the truth and to escape the delusion of the Big Lie and to stop the cover up. We have to try harder. It is more important than any political Party or position of power.
Until we find the strength to do this, we will remain a divided nation.

(15,651 posts)Much more than Cheney and Kinsinger could ever have.
The tangible, real life benefits of the infrastructure bill - child tax credit, free preschool and community college, good paying green jobs, Medicare at 60, including dental and vision, rural broadband- none of those benefits can be easily brushed aside by Fox or Facebook.
Im not predicting everyone across the nation will join hands and sing kumbaya, but millions will notice and approve of the benefits provided by these bill, and will vote accordingly.

Biden wanted $2.6 trillion new spend ($2.2 trillion for programmes and $400 billion in tax credits to fight global climate change)
the bill ended up at $550 billion new spend, and ALL tax credits removed

(43,258 posts)than on compromise. I thought WWII taught us you can't reason with fascists. They don't want to be part of any coalition. They want to destroy and I would argue plunder all who don't agree with them. The ballot box is our only peaceful hope.

(111,110 posts)They have the numbers they now have because of lies and deceptions. Once they no longer have those numbers, they are no longer capable of dividing the nation the way they are doing at present. We have to persuade people to work together as Americans, not Democrats or Republicans, as impossible as that may seem. In my opinion, Liz Cheney should challenge Kevin McCarthy for the leadership of the Republican caucus. (It would divide the Republican Party but it would unite the majority of Americans)

(22,913 posts)Among other things, democracy is a non violent means to resolve power disputes between groups of people inside a nation who hold strongly differing views and priorities. Democracy enshrines the peaceful transfer of power after every election. There never has been and never will be a full consensus among Americans about the best path forward. A basic adherence to the democratic process, imperfect as it often has been in practice, has been the foundational consensus in America that has allowed us to escape constant political violence and revolving seizures of power, by whoever gains the upper hand, through non democratic means. I can stand with conservatives who agree with us on this principle in our fight to defend it.
