Perhaps it's time to move our military bases out of states like Texas, Georgia and Florida where state Governors and legislatures have passed laws that threaten the well being of our young women and men in uniform. Perhaps that would add the financial incentive to act responsibly

(8,086 posts)The Hyde amendment is another conservative travesty.
And I'd be willing to bet, without first doing a Google search, that Henry Hyde was another self-righteous hyprocrite whose personal life was in direct contrast to the "morality" he fought to foist on the rest of us.

(42,747 posts)And it would strengthen the Republicans in the states you mention. You realize, of course, that states like Texas, Georgia, Florida have Democratic party members as elected officials at the state and local level. None of them would vote to harm their constituents, which it wouldn't be tried in the first place.

(8,086 posts)billions of their constituents' tax dollars to prop up states, such as Texas and South Carolina, that continue to elect representatives determined to end democracy and screw us all out of a chance to live reasonably rational and healthy lives.
Just one more way, along with disproportionate representation of rural districts, the outsized power awarded to red states in the Senate, and the electoral college which always tilts Republican, that the majority of voters in this country have to defer to the wishes of a declining minority who would just as soon we all die and go to Hell. And who are now literally and deliberately and even gleefully prolonging a pandemic that has killed more Americans than any of our wars since 1865.
