Elie Mystal of The Nation appeared on MSNBC on Tuesday to discuss Republican lawmakers opposition to the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot, and why he thinks they are fighting requests for some of their phone records.
The committee, which consists of seven Democrats and two Republicans, is seeking the phone records and other data of several Republican members of Congress in order to ascertain what if any role they played in the riot, and the nature of their communications on that day. In turn, Republicans have vociferously opposed the idea. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) even went so far as to claim that tech companies that complies with such requests or subpoenas from the committee would be violating federal law, though he did not cite which one.
Look, Mystal told Jason Johnson, Republicans dont want to investigate this. This is like having Goldilocks investigate who ate my dang grits, right? They dont want to know what happened cause they were doing the thing! They didnt see nothing cause they were doing something!
Mystal claimed Republicans understand that the more the committee unearths, the worse they will look:

By that I mean RAGA, the Mercers or some wealthy opportunists like them, the people behind the fraudit movement, the people who engineered and commissioned the massive number of voter infringement bills, the people whose names are never said by MSM talking heads because some of them own networks or massive corporations or are hidden behind layers of holding companies or banks in Cyprus and Grand Cayman.

(9,773 posts)and probably the rest of TFGs one term of president, American people no matter what party they are affiliated with, will be so astonished most elected republicans will literally be running for their lives.
This coup has been running for almost 5 years. I believe it was always TFGs plan. In cahoots with Putin? More than likely.
Go back in time and remember how the illegal, fake, rigged election talk there was. Started soon after the infamous escalator ride. It was always there, always brought up, it sunk into the minds of people making them doubt about any election.
And it continues

(43,258 posts)eastern European satellite states were always a point of conflict between the USA and USSR. We wanted free and fair elections in eartern Europe, USSR wanted puppet states. Elections were often not exactly rigged, but the candidates were of the choosing of the USSR, or there were only one slate of candidates. It was the visible part of the private interests vs. communism. With free markets came our banks and corporations seeking profits. With communist rule the economy was controlled and the "profits" went to the State to administer communism. So this issue has a history.

Being afraid of losing that 'privilege' and power led them to ride on the backs of the MAGAts - only to have it all fail - and now they're working real hard to cover their own a$$es and working to get back that power.
WE must work even harder to make sure that DOES NOT HAPPEN!!!!

congress members actually had contact with some of these idiot groups like the PBs, Oath Keepers and 3%ers. Especially some of the new crop like MTG, Bang Bang, Cawthorne and Gaetz. They actually may have enabled it to some varying degree.
But I think most of them just took some initial glee in the insurrection. They loved that a mob was forming to storm the castle, and stoked it because it seemed like a good idea at the time. Now they realize how shitty it all turned out, and theyre trying to cover their asses and gloss over it to avoid looking like they supported this kind of thing. For many of them, its more of an attempt to deny guilt by association rather than actual evidence of malfeasance.

(70,567 posts)References to the year 1776 and the American Revolution have grown substantially among the far-right as Trump supporters and conspiracy theorists have hinted at the possibility of a revolution in the wake of Trumps election loss, which they view, falsely, as illegitimate. Trump allies and surrogates, including first-term Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.), referred to Jan. 6 as Republicans 1776 moment.
An online shop dubbed 1776.shop that was founded last year by members of the Proud Boys, including its chairman Enrique Tarrio, hawks merchandise that co-opts 1776 as a symbol, along with other slogans and emblems touting the far-right.
