(43,146 posts)My local groundhog burrows under a sand mound septic system, and he is far ruddier - copper color fur almost Harryesque - and I think it's because of his diet from the roots around the mound, which are laced with copper from the additives in the septic to clear the roots. He's not spotted like the ones in that photo. Maybe a different species? Or same species but continental divide.
