As Mike Huckabee gains in the polls, the former Arkansas governor is finding that his record in office is getting more scrutiny. One issue likely to get attention is his handling of a sensitive family matter: allegations that one of his sons was involved in the hanging of a stray dog at a Boy Scout camp in 1998. The incident led to the dismissal of David Huckabee, then 17, from his job as a counselor at Camp Pioneer in Hatfield, Ark. It also prompted the local prosecuting attorney— bombarded with complaints generated by a national animal-rights group—to write a letter to the Arkansas state police seeking help investigating whether David and another teenager had violated state animal-cruelty laws.

My Aunt and Uncle have 3 kids who each have families of their own and they recently (couple years ago) managed to get the whole gang together all dressed in white and beige for a family picture on the beach. It's a great picture of all of them. Gulf coast at sunset and the photographer did an awesome job.

I wish my side of the family had done something similar before everyone started dying. The closest thing I have is a pic of me and my brothers at our mother's funeral. Not nearly as much fun but it was nice to see my brothers after so long (we all live in different states).

Oh no! It's the Mittens family!

Those are homemade outfits. If Mrs. Mittens was the seamstress, she's not very good at it. And where did she get the fabric, at an outlet sale? I sometimes buy fabric remnants to make household items out of them. That fabric is strictly for country kitchen curtains.

If it was some recipient of a Christmas card from the Romneys, who then put it on the web, then I'd agree it should be off limits (since I've been informed that many Americans regard dressing up their grandchildren identically as 'normal behaviour'); if the Romneys OKed the distribution of the photo on to the web, then they're using it as publicity, and some comment is acceptable.

I disagree.

If it gets used in a campaign ad then I might see your point but I think your stance is to broad. Most anything is out there now and I wouldn't want things like this to be turned around on those we support. It just isn't right.

There were attacks on the First Lady for wearing something sleeveless to church while in Hawaii. I think those were wrong too. We really should try to not be hypocritical on things like this.

Grandma called the mothers and got the sizes for the kids. Then she went into a store and bought all the stuff at once.

The "bother of obtaining the clothing" is little more than an errand of love for a multi-millionire's wife.

At least we can agree that your (and kpete's) objection is based entirely on your personal experience.

My family never did this either but I am able to accept someone else's traditions and not attack people simply for being different.

So many kids clothing places online and they normally aren't sold out of sizes like in a store. There are plenty of message boards dedicated to children's clothing and sales/swaps, etc. You can get info on great sales too...If I was rich and could afford the shipping I'd order everything online I think...

I have 4 kids of the same sex myself and I always dressed them alike for Christmas pictures when they were small. I never had a sister and wanted one so we could dress alike (like my cousins) so when I had my girls I dressed them alike for special occasions until the oldest grew out of children's sizes. They never minded at all - because I DID ask them, lol, so hopefully mine aren't scarred. It was so cute, I thought. I hope no one thought we were all creepy, I never even thought of that, actually!

You know, to each his (or her) own on these family pictures. Personally, if I walked into a children's clothing store and purchased 9 identical blue-checked shirts in assorted sizes, and four orange-and-yellow polka-dot dresses, I'd be afraid the salesperson would think I was a little nuts.

But then, orange is not my thing. But I'm not going to criticize it. Grandma orchestrated the picture she wanted to look at in her den of her darling grandkids, and it's her prerogative. On the other hand, I bet those kids are going to get some good yuks about this picture when they are older.

But why orange?

with the button higher than I've ever seen on a "standard" shirt.

Like it exposes just 1 inch of neck, rather than about 2.

Yeah, that's pretty disturbing all right. I'm really troubled by it.

Looks like my family at Christmas time. My parents, their three children, the six grandchildren and the 10 great-grandchildren.

Romney shouldn't be President, but why are we ridiculing this picture, exactly? Pretty small of DU, I think. Pretty lame, too.

Screw this shit! A little common decorum would be nice.

shall we? They're all of people's grandchildren.

Sometimes, I don't understand DU at all. Maybe it's because I'm all grown up and shit. I don't know.

Well, I suppose childish mockery is OK if you can't think well enough to go after substantial issues. Threads like this one are really saying, "I don't really know anything about the issues in this election, but here's a photo of a bunch of kids dressed alike. Don't vote for the grandfather in this picture."

I vote for real issues, rather than childish issues. I hate this kind of crap during election time. It's just lame.

that's why after reading the OP, I generally don't bother to comment on it. I see the threads at DU3 aren't up to your standards...but, then DU2 didn't make you happy either.

Perhaps you need to learn to be more discriminating in your reading selection on websites.

...it would just be a dorky picture of an excessively large family with one hell of an ecological footprint. But knowing what a monster Romney is, it makes the hokey wholesomeness of the picture super creepy indeed.

On the other hand, I'm mildly amused that it looks like Mitt has a flower in his hair.
