(21,487 posts)there are more GQP voters on food stamps than Democratic voters. Just look at the states that take in more from the government than pay in. Blue states fund red states.

(972 posts)stimulus money while they vote against the bills and campaign non stop about how terrible dems are, I wish their was a good legal (cant squirm out of it) way to say -
okay, we respect your wishes and your constituents and will honor your vote. If both senators and/or more than 50% of your reps vote against the bills we will honor that and allow you not to take this horrible money or benefits you feel are bad for your state.
Unrealistic, illegal?, but it would be oh so fun to see the hypocrites figure out how to explain themselves.
I am so bad!

There are a lot of us radical leftist here in the South. Why should we cede some of the most beautiful land in the country to a bunch of idiot Trump worshipers. They don't appreciate or take care of it.

In my fantasy world above There is no way to delude yourself. If the voters didnt understand that the republican reps would and would know they would be blamed so enough of them would vote to make sure it wouldnt happen.
Still its just a fantasy designed to reveal hypocrisy out of frustration that logic and analysis are rejected which, to the extreme, is evident with COVID patients dying while rejecting the diagnosis.
I never thought Id see that in my life to this degree.

(21,845 posts)I believe Democrats have a messaging problem. The Right Wing owns the narrative around here.

(21,487 posts)they are racists, bigots, and misogynists, we don't need them in our party. It is true. I golf with an 88 year old Korean war vet, did Meals on Wheels, active in the church, did military funerals, I found out since Trump came on the scene, he is a racist, bigot, and misogynist.
The GQP has done a fantastic job with messaging by making Democrats into demons, no need for debate, if someone is a Democrat he/she is a demon.

(2,223 posts)that much but the right talks the working man's talk. Everything the GOP says is backed up and broken down for digestion by a massive propaganda network, 24/7/365.
Midnight Writer
(21,845 posts)They root for "their" team and are caught up in the superficial drama and competition, ignoring the real world consequences.
Right Wing Hate Radio running on a dozen small radio stations, Sinclair News own the local TV station, FOX and it's ilk on the cable, conservative politics openly promoted in churches.

(2,223 posts)Fairness Doctrine style legislation but after decades of this it will be very hard. We have also done little to counter the propaganda machine, with the exception of things like Air America which was a apparently sabotaged so it would fail.
Taking the high road and letting people figure it out for themselves is noble and how it should be, but in these times we need to fight fire with fire. We need our own effective messaging apparatus.

They can't trust elitists who ride the train to work and have their spouse and kids work normal jobs.

(23,191 posts)So yeah, they don't see the dissonance of complaining about (black/brown) welfare queens while taking food stamps themselves. They deserve it because they are white muricans and the rest don't because they aren't.

(883 posts)Poor, uneducated and go to church. They think it's not them the republicans are talking about. If the republicans would get rid of the safety nets they are in it would be alright because 1. More money to top 1% would trickle down to them. 2. Deregulation will create jobs. 3. They are saving babies not necessarily in that order.
But republicans always suffer from the someone else syndrome. That won't happen to me. Like COVID-19, cancer, unemployment, being homeless. Jesus would keep that from happening. The people who have something happened did something wrong to be punished. And the one thing that would get them out of poverty like getting an education. If you like to learn you are trying to be like god. (Actually was told that one), education is liberal brain washing, elites have degrees and to them that makes it bad.
Years of Republican brainwashing in church. The first I remember is going to a local church just before Reagan they had republican businessmen go the churches to tell people not to vote for Jimmy Carter. He was going to make Southern Baptist the State religion. Lol.

(2,223 posts)They just want to be "part of something big" in their minds. Even if it will hurt them in the long run or at the very least do nothing for them.
Sort of like people who get suckered into the Amway pyramiding scheme. They tell you they are going to be flying around in their personal helicopters from their mansions while you eat Spaghettios. Then they get back into to their rusted out Ford F-150 and leave.

(2,574 posts)Even as congressional Republicans mobilize for a new drive to retrench federal anti-poverty efforts, whites without a college degreethe cornerstone of the modern GOP electoral coalitionhave emerged as principal beneficiaries of those programs, according to a study released Thursday morning.
The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, a liberal policy-analysis group, found that in both percentage terms and absolute numbers, federal programs reduced poverty among working-age whites without a college degree more than they did among non-college-educated Hispanics, African Americans, or members of other races, and far more than they did among college-educated adults of any race. The number of these working-age whites, in fact, exceeded the combined number of non-college-educated blacks, Hispanics, and members of other races that made such gains.
These findings, based on 2014 Census Bureau data, echo other studies showing that blue-collar whites have been among the principal beneficiaries of the Affordable Care Act. Both results underscore the challenge Republicans face reconciling their ideological determination to shrink the federal government with the practical needs of their increasingly working-class coalition.
Donald Trump, for instance, won about two-thirds of whites without a college degreethe most for any Republican since Ronald Reagan in his 1984 landslideand they provided almost exactly half of his total votes, even though they represented only about one-third of the electorate, according to media exit polls. Similarly, 152 House Republicans, out of 241 total, represent heavily blue-collar districts where the white population exceeds the national average and the portion of those whites with at least a four-year degree lags below the national average. The GOPs overwhelming advantage in those working-class districts underpins their House majority.

Social democracy never took root among economically disadvantaged, poorly educated Republicans because they see themselves not as exploited workers, but as temporarily embarrassed millionaires.

(2,042 posts)We need to get more liberal teachers into the elementary, middle, and high schools, and then have free college for everyone so that the next generation might develop a worldview beyond their parents' brainwashed, Trump-addled, nationalistic cult bubble.

(86,920 posts)The only social services available are all federally funded or non-profits. Even the worker's comp system here is there to make sure the employer sees no consequences and you pay for all your medical needs and personal expenses. Nobody here sees the irony of there expectations.

In my rural area the democrats are evil incarnate. The messaging started years ago, and I don't think they will change their minds until they lose everything. You do realize the liberals are coming for their guns?
