(CNN)Alex Jones, the conspiracy theorist who hosts the right-wing commentary website Infowars, was found legally responsible in two lawsuits for damages caused by his claims surrounding the 2012 Sandy Hook school mass shooting, according to court documents released Thursday.
Judge Maya Guerra Gamble issued default judgments on Monday against Jones and his outlet for not complying with court orders to provide information for the lawsuits brought against him by the parents of two children killed in the shooting.
The rulings, which were first reported by the Huffington Post, effectively mean that Jones lost the cases by default. A jury will convene to ascertain how much he will owe the plaintiffs, the report said.
An attorney for the parents, Mark Bankston, told CNN in a written statement that the rulings offers his clients "the closure they deserve

The ruling which is often referred to in Texas as a death penalty sanction for a party unwilling to comply with court orders is a rarity in the legal world. Jones, who is now on his seventh lawyer in these cases, had years to provide documentation requested by the court, including internal company emails.

(21,564 posts)I hope they bankrupt the scumbag.
I didnt know a judge could rule against someone by default for refusing to comply with demands for information. Very interesting. I assume that only applies for civil cases?
I would be very interested to see how the likes of Powell Guiluani and Wood deal with this in the Doninion suit. Refuse to comply and lose?

(19,061 posts)50 years ago he would have been dragged from his home and beaten. This monster went after the families of dead kindergartners.
And what's more, he did this and gained followers, a significant portion of the population supports his going after grieving families of dead children.
And what's beyond even all of that, this scumbag had a direct line into the Oval Office for 4 years.
Alex Jones deserves to be burned alive.

(17,229 posts)I'd prefer to see him tied up to a stake and allow Sandy Hook parents/teachers to shoot him with BB guns.
Let them use their 2nd amendment rights repugs love.

(8,731 posts)In sections. Start at feet. Saturate legs while feet burn. Then move up gradually in sections. Just a surface burn, Head last, so he is alive and awake until the head blazes. Allow ivermectin and Hydroxy to ease the pain while he burns. Make him watch gay frogs having oral sex through the whole process. Lizard people do the burning procedure.

(21,753 posts)I'm sure he will appeal.
And when he runs through all possible appeals, he will refuse to pay.
That will trigger another court battle.
Bastard will pop a blood vessel before justice catches up to him.
There has to be a faster path to justice.

(6,589 posts)He lost because he failed to comply with court orders & failed to supply the required information to the court.
It seems like the only appeal he has is to argue that he DID comply with court orders & he DID supply the info. Good luck trying to make that case when the facts clearly say the opposite.

(21,753 posts)I reckon he will claim the court's orders violated his Constitutional rights somehow.
To him, delay is a win.

(6,626 posts)Not bankruptcy, as he could weasel out of full payment.
Not that he can ever repay or atone for the heinous damage he has done, karma.
I'd say he is scum, but he only aspires to be scum, he is so much baser.

(50,557 posts)but if I was the plaintiffs attorney in this case Id be looking for two things: the full assets of InfoWars, and an injunction against him starting a new media outlet on any platform. The third leg of standing is that the requested relief must have the probability of correcting the harm alleged in the suit, and the only way youre going to correct the harm Alex Jones has inflicted on so many people is to shut him up by shutting him down.

(5,113 posts)no matter how big of a waste of oxygen he is you cant block him from starting a new media company. 1st amendment prevents that.
i do hope they take every penny from him. id like nothign more than to see him having to set up a tent to live in under a bridge somewhere and have him begging for quarters

(50,557 posts)The Second Amendment protects the right to keep and bear arms, but if you commit a felony you lose your gun rights.
Rights can be taken away if abused sufficiently, and it would be hard to argue Alex Jones hasn't abused his 1st Amendment rights severely.
