Call Me Crazy ...

... (and some of you undoubtedly will) - but I do believe that justice will be done.

I believe that Merrick Garland is doing his job - and he doesn't have to prove it to me on a daily basis with announcements, pronouncements, and press releases. I believe he doesn't have time for that - because he's too busy doing his job.

I believe that our Democratic members of Congress are fully aware of what happened on January 6th - more so than any of us whose very lives weren't in jeopardy on that day, when theirs were. Many of them called loved ones to say what they hoped wouldn't be a final goodbye - and reminding them how serious the events of that day were after-the-fact is as insulting as it is unnecessary.

I believe that our party's leadership is united in their determination to expose the corruption of Trump and his enablers, and will use every legal means at their disposal to do so.

I believe that our president, Joseph Biden, will not shirk his duty to see that justice is not only done - but will be seen to have been done. He will not cave to what is considered to be political convenience, and he will not base his actions as POTUS on what is politically expedient.

I believe that our party members fully understand what is at stake - being our survival as a democracy - and they are totally willing to engage in that fight.

I believe that in the end - as slow and as seemingly impossible as it sometimes feels - justice will inevitably prevail.

So call me crazy for believing - and then tell me why those who don't believe are so determined to convince you otherwise.

3. I hate it, but the old saying is true.

The wheels of justice turn slow. I hate it, but we have to have incontrovertible evidence to nail these motherfuckers who wanted to overthrow a legitimately elected president. I don't want a rushed investigation and trial with just the "b" team being prosecuted. This needs to go all the way to the top.

We saw evidence of this today in the Democrat Senate Judiciary report where the DOJ allowed these key DOJ employees to be interviewed by the Senate committee

in Watergate, we did not have video of Nixon holding a rally in front of the Watergate urging his followers to 'plumb like hell or you won't have a country..."

There is guilty and then there is GUILTY...

14. Free speech. Trump knew he could get away with every word he said. The law is quite lenient

where political speech is concerned. Trump even had his disclaimer ready—behave, do what the police tell you to.Tone of voice, how the speech is perceived is not considered. The speech would have had to directly lead to the specific criminal acts, the opportunity for which would have had to be close at hand and immediate. An immediate threat of law breaking was not present at rally. The rabble had to walk a ways. Time elapsed. Also, what Trump said all along and previously, five hours before does not count.

There will need to be a smoking gun to show he COORDINATED with them, enabled, facilitated etc. gave them favors, conspired with them. Inflammatory political rhetoric, even that which would appear to encourage violence is not in itself illegal even when those who listen do commit illegal acts.

Here's an excellent explanation—and yeah, I think he instigated and meant to.

I agree with everything you said, so that makes two of us crazies. (Along with a bunch more people who have posted replies here.)

Or as I have said before, I'm a cockeyed optimist who can't seem to help being hopeful even when things look their darkest. Like it says in this song:

When the sky is a bright canary yellow
I forget ev'ry cloud I've ever seen,
So they called me a cockeyed optimist
Immature and incurably green.

I have heard people rant and rave and bellow
That we're done and we might as well be dead,
But I'm only a cockeyed optimist
And I can't get it into my head.

I hear the human race
Is fallin' on its face
And hasn't very far to go,
But ev'ry whippoorwill
Is sellin' me a bill,
And tellin' me it just ain't so.

I could say life is just a bowl of Jello
And appear more intelligent and smart,
But I'm stuck like a dope
With a thing called hope,
And I can't get it out of my heart!
Not this heart...

I don’t believe in a god. There has never been any evidence to support such a belief in either.

17. Many years ago, as a child, my family moved to a new state
Fri Oct 8, 2021, 07:11 PM
Oct 2021

In my new home, a specific sports team was a BIG deal.. and they were doing quite well the year we moved there. One way to connect to new classmates and fit in was to support the team. So I did. I had a significant amount of childlike naivety, and I went in whole heartedly. I believed in the team. They were, by golly, the BEST sportsball team in the history of sporting events. They were going to win that Grand Super Championship Series. I knew it, and everyone agreed. We had the best quarterback in the country. Our pitcher was clearly the MVP. You will have to forgive the mixed references, I was 6, from a family that ignored sports, and doing my best to understand

And then they lost. I was devastated. Everyone knew they were the best, they would win. Why would they lose? How? But.. others assured me it was ok.. They would get it next year, for sure. The other teams were losing key players, our best players were just coming into their own, and now we knew their weaknesses.. We would win. So.. I held my faith.

And next year, sure enough, we were back in the super slam cup, the final two teams for the ultimate win. "They" had led me right.. I just had to wait, We were the Best. I just needed a little patience, it was just a little hiccup. My anti TV family humored me by renting a TV for the final game that would bring our glorious win.

And they lost. Again. Soured me on sports for most of my youthful life.

Many years later, I now understand that the pressure on our president and elected officials to quietly move on, to focus on the future and let the past lie, especially with the closely divided senate, two democrats trying to sabotage everything on the agenda, with the next elections set up to see epic levels of shenanigans by republicans... will be absolutely tremendous.

And i believe that no human is perfect. We all make mistakes. Sometimes we run committees that pass justices onto the supreme court that really should not be there. Sometimes we are willing to make deals with the devil in the name of getting things done. We make mistakes. They make mistakes None of us are immune from this.

And I think many of us cant afford to have blind faith in a team of players who have failed us before and will fail us again if we want to remain functional and engaged and hopeful for the future. We need to live with the acceptance they are imperfect, Hoping they will work their hardest, but will disappoint us, sometimes even when its important. We have to acknowledge that Fitzmas's are a pleasant fantasy but not to be relied on. And We need to be prepared for the possibility, even likelyhood that we dont win this battle, and that there are setbacks in the larger conflict incoming.

We live in reality. In the book version everything turns out ok, the good guy always wins and holds true when its most important. But we dont live in a book. And putting all our bets on counting on the book version is a quick trip to disaster and heartbreak.
